The all-new 2014 Corvette is hot. Red hot. Maybe even white hot. From its daring exterior design and powerful powertrain to its high-quality interior and countless technologies, the seventh-generation Corvette has so many new elements that it would be a sacrilege to go over all of them at once. That’s why we’re making several overview videos of the new Vette from the show floor of the COBO Center in Detroit. Here’s the first of our series, outlining several design elements of the 2014 Corvette:

You got to TOUCH IT!
Yes! I got my paws all over it. And then sat all over it, too! 🙂
OMG!!!!! I am sooo jealous!!!!! 😉
GOD your so LUCKY!!!!!!!!!!!
I think you need to get a black one, Alex! I think heated seats for D town 🙂
The tail lamps are beginning to bother me less and less, but I wouldn’t say that I’m falling for them. I’m not a fan of black wheels period, and I don’t like the contrast of the black vents (functional or not) against the red. I’ve seen the grey colour and I think that suits the design better. I’d love to see it in black with silver wheels.
I’m really ‘diggin this new Stingray!!! I think it looks better in “real” pictures than the studio shots that make it look all creased up. I am liking ALL of this car as I see more and more. I do agree with you on the ugly black wheels, they look as if they are covered with brake dust.
Richard — by the same token, I would be all over this car (contrasting elements such as wheels, vents, and all). The black rims are only part of the optional Z51 package, and it might even be possible to equip Z51 Stingrays with a different set of wheels (or wheels of different colors) entirely. We’ll see as we get closer to market launch.
However, here’s my question to you: since you’re not a fan of contrasting vents, which color would you like to see them on light-colored (white, yellow, even red) Vettes?
Glad to see GM making the best use of LEDs and HIDs
does any body know if the roof will have the same color as the car
nice vid Alex. i’ve already stated that i love the new direction they took the Vette. but i didn’t realize till this video why i like the rear so much – it’s the way the car DOES NOT taper in the rear. the left and rear fenders stay just as proud and wide all the way to the trailing edge of the car. (it’s the 1960s all over again!) and the aggressive rear light treatment and sculpting has me all giddy with images of late 50s-mid 60s rear end American wideness.
this car has swagger from the front, side and rear, coming, passing and going; that’s something you just don’t see anymore on modern cars. does this mean GM is getting it’s “classic” styling Mojo back?
i looked at the vieo again; and ya know – considering what i said above, that tail end looks like it would be far more appropriate for a new RWD Impala than a Vette…either way i still like the new Stingray.
Does the back of the Corvette have any plastic?
Like most (if not all) cars, the lower valance of C7 is plastic. I didn’t think to touch the area above the plate, though, so not sure if it’s plastic or metal.
Well the Vette has always had a plastic body. No reason to change now. I’m pretty sure every exterior panel except for the carbon fiber ones are good old plastic.
The doors and front/rear quarter panels are definitely not plastic…
Are you sure? Every source I’ve read, nobody has mentioned a move to metal panels. If so that’s a MAJOR departure from the tradition as well. Are you implying it’s some new polymer? The current C6 is polyester sheet molding compound (SMC) that is reinforced with fiberglass. With front and rear facias being polyurethane in a reinforced -reaction injection molding (RRIM) process, which allows complex shapes that could not be economically formed in steel or SMC. The front fenders are made of a special RRIM material that has the lightweight mineral micra added to reduce weight but retain strength of normal RRIM. (all of the above info is directly from GM)
But generally in laymans terns it’s just plastic. Or as Jeremy Clarkson ignorantly displayed on Top Gear [when he pressed and pushed in the rear bumper of the Z06] supposedly “cheap plastic”.
Are you saying the rear facia is no longer pliable to the touch?
Nope, I’m wrong… My mistake.
The C7 features composite fenders, doors and rear quarter panels. I even wrote this yesterday in an upcoming piece! Sorry about that.
