As we first reported several months ago, General Motors has officially stated that it will be keeping the current-generation Chevrolet Impala around for a few more years as a fleet-only vehicle — a market segment synonymous with that specific model. Secondly, the old Impala will continue to be built in the Oshawa, Ontario facility, which has recently fallen under the spotlight for losing the Chevrolet Camaro to the Lansing Grand River, Michigan plant starting 2015.
Meanwhile, the upcoming, all-new 2014 Chevrolet Impala will begin appearing in dealerships beginning Spring 2013. This strategy will not only keep the profits rolling from the ninth-generation fleet queen, but should keep the resale value high on the tenth-generation model.

The new Chevrolet Classic?
Very good idea….it sells a lot and people love it….
So it’s this along with the captiva will be only for fleets?
The Chevy Captiva isn’t for fleets only. My local GM dealer has twenty-one vehicles for sale on the lot:

If you want one, come down to Bayamon, Puerto Rico!
Hallelujah!
I rented these vehicles exclusively on business trips , great to drive , roomy for clients , good fuel economy . The size is right on for a family sedan . Why go for a complete redesign when a freshening of the dash , tweaking the nose and refining the details a bit where customers have repetitive issues ? GM already has many owners who like the vehicle and are its best advertising and re-buyers . The current Toyota Camry hasn’t changed much since 2003 , just refined here and there and tweaked the nose and trunk outline . Its the best selling sedan in USA . GM designs a model , leaves it on the market , as is ,for years , it gets long on the tooth so they turf it and move on . This messes with resale value big time as does selling lots to fleets for after two years they are flogged on the market for major discounted rates . How many Hondas or Toyotas do you see on the rental lots ? No wonder they command higher resale prices than north american sedans , people perceive them as better quality products .
usaywhat…
This is only done to try and maintain a 16% Canadian production in NA in order to satisfy the agreement reached with the Canadian government to get bailout money.
They wouldn’t continue to sell it otherwise…
A good friend just bought a 12 LTZ…she loves it…black over black and very sharp….it is a quality car with nice design….she did not buy foreign after all and I am proud of her
will it still come in ls lt and ltz trims
The current impala is a nice car, it rides nice and has a roomy interior, my friend had a rental a loaded ltz w the new 3.6 for 300 hp and its powerful n gets about 30 hwy.. n they seem to be reliable, my neighbor has a 2004 w 170k+ n it runs well, an exhaust leak makes it loud but he keeps it maintained
106k on my 2008 LT and it still runs strong and gets near 30 on the open road. Aside from replacing the battery/alternator and wear items it has been trouble free. I would buy another in a heartbeat.
same with my 2008 Impala SS. That V8 can go!
