And on the eighth day, the Cadillac ATS came an all-new turbocharged 2.0-liter Ecotec engine. And it was good. At 272 horsepower, the 2.0T is the most power-dense engine to ever be rated the the Society of Automotive Engineers, and is changing the way people think about American luxury cars. Most recently, the engine was announced as one of the honorees for the esteemed Ward’s 10 Best Engines.
Ward’s reviewed 40 engines from 16 automakers in this year’s competition. The short list of winners were declared based on several factors, including power, fuel efficiency, new technology, refinement, and comparative data for similar engines.
The 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is also found in the Chevrolet Malibu Turbo, and is a direct-injection twin-cam, four-valve-per-cylinder engine enhanced with continuously variable valve timing. The engine also features a twin-scroll turbocharger with air-to-air intercooler, forged-steel crankshaft with modular balance shaft system. and a two-stage variable-displacement oil pump with jet-spray piston cooling.
Most importantly, the engine has a wide torque curve, delivering 90 percent of its peak 260 lb-ft. of torque (353 Nm) within the 1,500 rpm to 5,800 rpm range, which makes things a thrill every time the foot compresses the gas pedal.

Zoom, zoom, zoom…sounds like fun 🙂
So, I wonder if GM owes any “tack” to Saab, for this engine. Finally some balance shafts!
