With the final 2012 COPO Camaro produced, Chevrolet has tallied the production numbers for the special drag racer through 2012. Below is the official breakdown of the the 69 COPO Camaros produced this year:
- 67 were coupes and two were convertibles
- 43 cars were equipped with the 427 naturally aspirated engine – including the original proof of concept show car that debuted at the 2011 SEMA Show
- 20 cars were equipped with the 327 / 4.0L-supercharged engine
- 6 cars were equipped with the 327 / 2.9L-supercharged engine
- 8 customers ordered the collector’s package, which includes all three engines number-matched to their car
- 32 cars were painted Summit White – including the original show car
- 20 cars were painted Black
- 12 cars were painted Victory Red
- 2 cars were painted Ashen Grey Metallic
- 2 cars were painted Silver Ice Metallic

- 12 cars were ordered without COPO graphics
Surprised Summit White was the most popular choice? We are. Perhaps white paint is the fastest paint…

My guess would be white ….. best backround for race graphics.
White makes sense because if you have ever owned a -10 second drag car you would know how hot it gets in your racing suit and sitting next to a roaring engine. We used to have a black ’68 Camaro that when babied it ran in the 9’s, until we sold it to someone in Qatar, Saudi Arabia. We regret that and man do I miss that thing.
You have a chance to buy one now!
One of these amazing productions will be auctioned at Mecum Auction on November 16, 2012, in Anaheim, CA., at the Anaheim Convention Center.
I wouldn’t miss a chance to purchase such an iconic car that probably has one of the most important heritage of all American muscle cars.
Oh boy, 8 collector editions. That’s what I would have gone for. Wow.
One of the 69 2012 COPO’s is going to be auctioned on Saturday, 11-17-12, in Anaheim Mecum auction, not Friday.
Amazing.
You forgot one more stat……All 69 copos’ came with a FORD 9″ rear. Don’t that just kill the BLOWtie boys. HA HA HA!
Don’t forget alot of the ford guys in racing are running the powerglide,( gm 2 speed).
Nice try douche but ahh, what Ford ever came from the manufacturer with a powerglide, or any other gm part for that matter? Lets compare apples to apples here.
try and be nice ,what i am saying is if you happen to go to any nhra races a lot of ford guys are running the powerglide because the powerglide is very strong and cheap to build, theres good and bad from both manufacters—dick
O.K. robert, I’ll say this again since you must be slow…..What Ford ever came from the factory with a gm part on it ?????? I am well aware that people use power glides in Fords and other makes to dragrace. Does this mean that the great and powerful (and taxpayer funded) gm can’t build a rearend that will survive in the copo…so they have to use a Ford part? …….douchenozzle!
Eric,
To answer your question, the Ford Cobra Jets came with a 2 speed Powerglide. As did the V10 Drag Pak. The V10 Drag Pak also came with a 9″ rear end. So your point is rendered moot.
