GM Releases Standard Equipment, RPO Codes For 2014 Chevy Impala

General Motors has released the preliminary order information, including standard features and the list of Regular Production Options (RPO). Of note, the all-new Chevy 2014 Impala will offer dual-zone climate control, an eight-inch touchscreen with Chevy MyLink, and three USB ports as standard equipment. In addition, the LFX V6 engine will make 305 horsepower rather than the initially-announced 303.

The 2014 Impala will also offer at least three wheel designs and sizes, including a set of painted allow 18s (RT4), machined-face aluminum 19s (Q6M), and aluminum 20s (RQ9). The flagship Chevy sedan will also have dedicated umbrella storage in the front door and hidden storage in the trunk, yet feature Halogen headlamps on all trim levels except for the top-of-the-line LTZ, which will sport High Intensity Discharge (HID) units.

The new Impala will ditch the W-body architecture of the current ninth-generation sedan and move to the much-more-modern Super-Epsilon vehicle architecture that also underpins the Buick LaCrosse and Cadillac XTS; the smaller version of the Epsilon platform is used by the Chevy Malibu and Buick Regal/Opel Insignia. The Chevy flagship will three engine choices and bring features previously unavailable to Chevy vehicles while waving bye-bye to the bench seat. Recently, General Motors commenced manufacturing pre-production Imapala unts at its Detroit-Hamtramck and Oshawa, Ontario assembly plants. The full-sized sedan will face competition from the new Toyota Avalon, freshened Ford Taurus, and the Chrysler 300.

  1. This Impala looks great. I saw one at an auto show and it has presence! It looks MBZ CLS-esq. I wish it had the tradition three lights in the back- it’s not a Biscayne! I like the Taurus, but it looks fat and chunky next to the Impala. Probably the best looking FWD sedan out there. (My second choice after the Chry 300/Charger).
    Cool promo for it: http://gmauthority.com/blog/2012/04/this-is-the-2012-2013-2014-chevy-impala-reveal-video/
I think the ’66 Impala looks closer to this new one, but the the homage to the ’65 is still cool.

  2. Let’s see: I’m getting tired of the Charger and 300, the Taurus and 2013 Avalon are too fussy, and the new Azera’s design language will not stay fresh for long. So if I were in the market for a full-sizer, this would be the one.

I estimate that a 2014 Impala with the options I would want (leather, navigation, intelligent-key access and start and sunroof) would be in the neighborhood of $38K. But has General Motors released any pricing information on it?

  3. Sounds like Chevy and Buick are giving Cadillac a good run for sales…………I don;t get why Cadillac has such meager standards in comparison? I looked at ATS again this weekend…lovely car but still appears rather spartan

    1. Spartan? Weren’t they from Greece?

I think you meant Teutonic (German).

  5. Foglamps…? Flip and fold seat…? Uplevel (BOSE) sound system…? No bench seat, no Victory Red paint. GM, you ruined the Impala for me!

    1. What?! No column shifter? No opening windshield or tail fins? This car is dead upon arrival! 😉

All sarcasm aside, the bench seat and flip/fold rear seat aren’t needed anymore… the bench seat is a relic that has served its purpose, while the flip-and-fold — while cool — can be replicated by a simple folding of the rear seatback (more or less). The improvements seen in the all-new model far outweigh the few feature deletions that should’ve gone away a long time ago (in my opinion, of course).

Interesting thing about the fogs though. Interesting, indeed.

    2. People, times are changing! Things like bench-seats and column-shifters do not appeal to the masses. The fact of the matter is that the majority of Impalas are sold to fleets not customers. And those who do buy it would most certainly rate it as secondary to other full-sized sedans like the Taurus, Maxima, Azera, 300/Charger and Avalon. Car-enthusiasts complain that GM is constantly bleeding money and releasing crippled products, and then we complain when they try to fix it. I’m sure everyone would just *love* it if GM just reincarnated all of its fifties’ and sixties’ models and all of its dead brands, but that just isn’t practical or profitable. And the point of a mainstream car company is to turn a profit. I’ll bet you that this car sells much better than the current W-body Impala, even considering fleets. It uses pre-existing parts on a pre-existing platform shared with multiple other cars in the GM lineup, so there’s no reason this new iteration will be much more expensive to produce than the current one. This “the-new-one-sucks-and-the-old-ones-were-perfect” meme is getting really, really old. Do you know how stagnant the automotive industry would be if we honored that kind of system?

The recent Impala is a car that, for the most part, no one loves, but everyone tolerates. GM is making it a car that you can love and that you can be proud to own, rather than allowing it to maintain its dubious position as a cheap penalty-box. I applaud the company for this.

      1. Gotta disagree with the higher impala sales than the current one. For this calender year Impala will sell about 170,000 units while the Malibu will sell about 200,000. A huge percentage of the Impalas will be fleet because GM has a huge discount on it due to its age and content.

The new Impala will be priced higher relative to the Malibu and I believe fleet will be a much lower percentage. Therefore Impala sales will go down a bit while the Malibu will go up. I can take both my father and father in law as examples. Both own the current Impala mostly because of the size and a lot because of the great deal they got at closing. Unbelievable incentives. I do not foresee these kinds of incentives on the new Impala relative to the Malibu.

Another example, which is a bit extreme, is the Avalon vs. Camry. 24,000 Avalon vs. 400,000 Camry. I often wonder why they keep the Avalon. It is just a larger Camry with a bit more content. And the sales volume just does not seem worth the bother of building it (since I believe it is only sold in NA?)

If I had to guess I would say Impala will sell at half the volume of Malibu.

  6. Nevermind on the sound system, found options for 10 and 11 speaker BOSE systems.
