Costco Partners With General Motors For “Preferred Pricing”, Costco Cash

At a time that seemingly everyone is looking for a better deal on a car, General Motors has partnered with Costco’s Auto Program. According to a Costco press release, members of the popular wholesale retailer will receive GM Preferred Pricing on select vehicles as well as a $500 Costco Cash Card (after purchasing an eligible vehicle and completing a Costco Auto Program member satisfaction survey).

The limited-time offer runs for the three months beginning October 2, 2012 and ends on January 2, 2012. It applies to the following 2012 or 2013 vehicles:

Unfortunately, Cadillacs aren’t part of the deal.

Last year, Costco members purchased more than 350,000 vehicles (from GM and other manufacturers) through Costco’s Auto Program. Costco’s presser stated that it expects its partnership with GM to garner even more attention from Costco members this year… and GM seems to agree:

“The last promotion with the Costco Auto Program was very successful,” said James Bell, head of consumer affairs for General Motors. “General Motors is happy to partner with the Costco Auto Program once again, to showcase our most popular new vehicles to Costco members and provide a great value.”

Members must have active memberships as of October 1, 2012 and are required to register to participate in the special offer by visiting www.costcoauto.com/gm or by calling 877-746-7422, then purchasing and taking delivery of an eligible GM vehicle by January 2, 2013.

Are you a Costco Member — and will you be taking advantage of the offer? If you’re not a member, would you be willing to become a Costco member just to get $500 in Costco shopping money? As of this writing, it costs $55 a year to be a Costco member and $110 a year for an executive membership. Sound off in the comments below.

  1. They don’t even HAVE Costco where I live; I’ve never seen one in my life : P

  2. I’d rather just negotiate the deal with the dealer myself. Then I would not have to go to Costco and spend more $$$ there to justify for my membership.

  3. Last year at this time I shopped all the northern VA dealers for a 45th Anniversary Camaro SS. None would negotiate anything less than MSRP for what I wanted. Through the Costco program I received a no haggle preferred price for exactly what I was looking for. The money I saved on this one car purchase is a lifetime of Costco membership fees.

  4. I am a big fan of Costco, and shop there weekly. Last year I was in the market to lease a 2012 Cadillac SRX. I obtained prices from about 20 dealers. Sadly, when I inquired of the Costco dealer, the price was $500 HIGHER than the price they originally quoted me. I ended up leasing from a dealer 100 miles away from me, and almost $1500 less than the Costco quote. The dealer Costco recommended would not negotiate further stating that they had to honor the original quote through Costco. Sad!
