Cadillac Reportedly Already Improving Manual Transmission In ATS 2.0T

As the Cadillac ATS slowly trickles into dealerships, the automotive media at large has been testing it in the real world since the summer time. And although there has been wondrous praise about the ATS’ handling abilities, there seems to be one unanimous complaint: the imprecise nature of the manual transmission found exclusively in the ATS 2.0T.

A manual transmission in the ATS 2.0T sounds to us like it would be a blast, but those who have had substantial seat time with the car mark it down as the car’s Achilles heel — resulting in the ATS coming up short of the BMW 328i in major comparison tests. Needless to say, this is discouraging for Cadillac… so much so that production of ATS manual sedans have been “stopped cold” to improve the feeling of the transmission’s operation by adjusting to softer bushings according to Motor Trend. A recall (or a TSB) isn’t in order, since the fixes will be made before any cars get into the hands of consumers.

  1. Hopefully this will fix the issue and there will be no more excuses on why the Caddy bests the 3 series.

  2. This is great news. But I still wish that GM would fix the very few glitches with CUE like by just adding a volume and tuning knob and a seek button. That’s really all it needs. If they did this, and added 8 speeds the ATS would be unstoppable

    1. I don’t understand why people have problems with the volume slider. It’s really easy to use, as easy as a traditional knob as far as I am concerned. And I say this from personal experience, as I have played around with the system quite a bit. I can see the complaint of no tuning knob, but radio stations are changed quite easily by voice command, so even if there was a knob, I would likely use the voice commands or the easily accessible “favourites” buttons.

    2. All of that can be done from the steering wheel, hands dont even have to move from position.

      1. Sure, but I don’t think you want your wife/GF/mistress reaching over to your steering wheel to change the station… But then again, that’s where the ‘voice command’ comes in handy. 😉

    3. The base model has knobs….they work just fine and you can still use touch screen as well…..very nice layout and lights up too…looks sharp against the black background…I imagine at night it is very cool 🙂

  3. That’s right your passenger wife girlfriend mistress should be under voice command at all times. If only they were as obedient as a German Shepherd.

  5. This is pointless, nowadays manufacturer adopts journalist comments and some stupid stuff like how good, some cars are on track, does not matter if it is SUV or small car… who gives a sh**. And I have to say that stupid people, and those who do not know nothing about cars have opinion after one review about car…
