40,859 GM Vehicles Recalled For Possible Fuel Leak

A new recall has been issued to precisely 40,859 General Motors vehicles regarding faulty fuel pump modules that may crack and leak fuel, according the the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

“Some of these vehicles have a condition in which the plastic supply or return port on the fuel pump module may crack, which could cause a fuel leak. Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in a fire,” said the NHTSA.

Affected vehicles are the 2007-2009 Chevrolet Cobalt, 2007 Chevrolet Equinox, 2007-2009 Pontiac G5, 2007 Pontiac Torrent and 2007 Saturn Ion.

Specifically, affected vehicles were only sold in certain states. For instance, the 2007 Cobalt, G5 and Ion vehicles were originally sold or currently registered in Arizona, California, Florida, Nevada or Texas. Additionally, the 2007 Equinox and Torrent vehicles were originally sold or currently registered in Arizona, California, Nevada and Texas. Uniquely, the 2008 Cobalt and G5 vehicles were originally sold or currently registered in Arizona. And the 2009 Cobalt and G5 vehicles were originally sold or currently registered in Arkansas, Arizona, California, Nevada, Oklahoma or Texas.

A date has not yet been set for the recall, but owners can contact GM at 1-800-521-7300, and GM dealers will replace the fuel pump free of charge.
