2014/2015 GMC Canyon Spied In Michigan

While the North American market remains envious of the new Chevrolet Colorado, which is sold around the rest of the globe except for the New World, GM engineers are busy developing something to appease us. They will come as the North America’s unique version of the Colorado, and the next-generation GMC Canyon, both of which are scheduled to launch in the time frame of 2014.

Posted on Pickuptrucks.com, what we’re seeing is presumably the new 2014/2015 GMC Canyon. Differentiating itself from the global Colorado, the truck features a stubbed front fascia with a taller hood and with lights stretched all the way to the wheel wells. Some retro styling from the 1940’s and ’50’s, perhaps? Altogether, the masked front clip seems to give the new truck an over-sized presence. Or perhaps this is the North American-spec Colorado we’re seeing, considering it’s said to be different from the global model.

Either way, we can expect significant differences between the new Colorado and Canyon both inside and out, much like the upcoming Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra full-sized trucks.

  1. The thought of a retro inspired truck has me excited.

    I almost bought a 5.3L crew cab Colorado 4×4 back in the spring, really wish I had. Option leather seats and LSD, and hard plastic trifold tonneau already on it. Damn.

    Can’t wait to see what’s in store for the 2015MY

  2. Well, give it an EREV – Voltec driveline and then it will get me all excited. Hey, give us diesel, even! Just use the GM engineering prowess shown us in Volt to get off foreign crude….Help us help ourselves. Let us plug in our truck at night and go 40 – 50 miles on good ole American-made energy right from our own garage…Heck, let us put solar panels or a wind generator on our house and power this truck from clean energy and let us be truly “independent” – in which the oil companies and political candidates misuse the term.

    Why is VIA building CHEVY TRUCKS with EREV-Voltec drivelines and not GM itself and offering us that choice.

    Why GM – Why? T

    Until then, I cannot get excited about an internal-combusted truck. I own a V-6 T100 truck just about exactly the size ( larger than a Dakota or present, outgoing Colorado ) of this new Colorado. My truck is perfect in size for my needs with an extra cab for my little ones – I get 21mpg consistently and in hilly country I live in. MY TRUCK IS A !((% MODEL! So tell me why I should trade or sell my 1995 which runs great and is so reliable – for this new truck that really doesn’t even up the meter in advancement at all?

  3. Sorry for the passion I show on this subject — But the VIA shows us that the future is here already. The only mildly positive thing about this rig is that it is smaller than a fullsize – and thus will get slightly better mpg.

    My 1995 Toyota 4X4 T100 has nine inches of stock ground clearance and power everything. I get over 21 mpg COMBINED most days especially when I use some freeway. Should you, you and you and I go into debt. in a car loan for years for THIS? I think not. This Colorado might just eek out 22 combined mpg ( 28 hwy ) with a turbo 4. It just purely does not up the ante enough from what we have used in the past.

    It’s odd that GM hasn’t sued VIA for using it’s Volt technology in their trucks. And even more glaring that, with Bob Lutz on their board – that GM doesn’t sit down and figure out how to sell these trucks and a volume rate for prices you and I can consider.

  4. Let me correct you, Manoli. The United States and Canada are the only “New World” countries that the new Colorado is not sold in. Recall that these two countries are not (collectively or otherwise) referred to solely as the “new world”. One step further is that they are not only sold all over the “new world”, but they are built here as well (Brazil).

  5. Take a close look at the wheel openings of that truck. The fronts are round, like the production global Colorado and the rears are squared.
    That’s a Frankenstein truck of sorts.
    Because of that, I don’t think we can draw a conclusion of which model it is.

  6. so are we getting the colorado and canyon or just canyon? :/ and is the colorado in the other countries designed by the U.S.?

  7. It is quite obvious that the next gen Canyon, which has been scheduled to be introduced sometime during 2014/15 model year, is coming with many updates as compared to the present gen model including cosmetic changes both inside and outside, incorporation of plentiful standard features etc.

  8. Me too.. I’m excited about a short, retro looking truck with better fuel economy!

    Four Features I would hope (almost beg) for :

    * A really big cab with only two door handles.
    * Stepside
    * Some kind of bed rail storage so we don’t have to drop in a tool box.
    * A giant rear window

  9. Is this 2014/2015 GMC Cayon going to be another tease like the light duty 4.5L V-8 diesel of 2009? Isn’t it funny that South America had crew cab Toyota’s in late 1980’s but it took Nissan 2005 to bring them to the USA! Tailand, Austria and other countries have the (D-Max) T355 (Cayon size) frame pickup in 3.0 L diesel with 5 speed transmission wake up GM we want a small pickup that can get in tight spot in the woods and power to pull a camper.

  10. It appears the canyon will proceed to the same front styling as on the gmc acadia. Well done, as i find the chevy version to pedestrian. The gmc version will attract the more rugged workhorse drivers while the chevy will satisfy most light truck-use drivers. Seems that they could have made it a little beefier as an overall package, but playing safe, they do not want to draw sales of their full-size trucks. I suspect similar styling with the redesigned yukon and terrain in 2015.
