2013 model-year Chevrolet Volt owners have begun to receive recorded messages indicating that they should visit their dealer’s service department ASAP. The reason for the messages involves the electric motor, which could suddenly and mysteriously shut down. However, the brakes and steering will still work, according to GM-Volt.com. It’s not an NHTSA recall, but a voluntary move to ensure customer satisfaction.
The simple fix consists of a software update for the motor, and it will only take an hour or so. The issue doesn’t involve 2011 and 2012 model year Volts. Specifically, owners that use the delayed charging function — which allows owners to recharge the vehicle at certain times — are most prone.

As The Detroit News reports, the problem seems to only affect 2013 Chevrolet Volts whose owners have made use of the Volt’s delayed charging function. Until vehicles are brought in for service, GM is recommending that customers switch to immediate instead of delayed time charging to avoid this inconvenience.
Sounds like they programmed it to charge later and they were driving it at that time?

Yes it does. I drive a 2012 and they called my vehicle in for this software update.
