A peculiar 2014 Chevrolet Silverado test mule caught the eye of spy photographers as it was roaming around the back roads of Southeast Michigan. What’s so different about this one? The 275/55R20 Goodyear Eagle LS-2 tires. It was this exact type of rubber that was used on the last Chevrolet Silverado SS pickup. And, look! Red seat belts! That means something, right?
Pardon us for not sounding convinced. While the tires may point to something more exciting to drive than your standard Chevy truck, the puny tail pipe that can be seen at Pickuptrucks.com suggests otherwise. As do the size of the brakes. As does the generous ground clearance. And what are tow mirrors doing on a supposed performance truck?
Sorry folks, the evidence just isn’t strong enough for this test mule to be a high performance Silverado. And since the full-size two-mode hybrid project has been put to rest, chances are this is nothing more than a Silverado crew cab.

that cannot be it since the ground clearance needs to be lowered!!
I think a short bed, REGULAR CAB ZL1 pickup would be pretty cool. But I have ZERO faith that GM could pull it off properly. ZERO. And as big as trucks look and have gotten today, I’m not sure it would even be possible to build one and have it look anything other than completely stupid. This thing, if it is an SS, is all wrong for reasons already stated and then some, IMO.
I predict that this truck will lose ground to the Ram very quickly. It’s a has-been before it has even reached the showrooms. And GM knows it. It seems as if the people at the truck department didn’t get the memo that GM was doing things differently now.
if gm need to build a winner they need to build the all terrain design..nothing else..gm dont screw the next pickup..
It amazes me how negative people are on this site – I thought this site was for GM fans! I have a lot more faith in the new GM than ever, I’m really looking forward to the covers being pulled off of the Silverado and US Market Colorado. I traded in my Cobalt for a Cruze, and every time I drive the car I appreciate the little things GM did to make it a good car, while each time I drove the Cobalt, I found things where corners were cut, but I still liked that car. Add that philosophy to the Cruze article posted today, stating how the Cruze has significantly higer selling price and resale value than other vehicles in it’s class, I don’t have any reason to believe that GM will drop the ball on the trucks – I’m really looking forward to see what they’re holding in the cards….
TJS, I’m right there with you.
I loved my Cruze and, like you, all the little things that made it great. I see no reason that the New GM will release any kind of inferior product at this point. 🙂
i just don’t know… Ram’s trucks are so much more convincing starting 2013.
I doubt we’ll see another one, as cool as that would be. Given the success of Fords F150 Raptor compared to its predecessor, the market for street oriented performance trucks appears to be dead.
