The hype surrounding the 2014 Corvette C7 can be compared to what we just saw with the reveal of the new Apple iPhone 5 or Nintendo Wii U entertainment console. Also on the same level is the amount of mystery that surrounds the vehicle, just as mystery surrounded the new Wii U and iPhone 5. Sure, we have a very good idea of what it will look like when we finally lay eyes on it at the 2013 North American International Auto Show in January, but what’s powering it is still a puzzle.
We know it will be a brand-new small-block pushrod V8 of some sort — which may or may not continue the 2-valve-per-cylinder tradition — or perhaps something more evolved. Displacement also seems to be a mystery at this point. Originally believed to be a 5.5L engine, we’ve heard it could just as well be a new 6.2L motor. And don’t forget about the rumored 3.0L V8 engine. The transmission is expected to be a seven-speed manual transmission, and we wouldn’t be surprised to see an optional eight-speed automatic, though some estimates put both in a more distant time frame. As for the power, look for a number around a hearty 450 horsepower to the crank in the base model.
We also hope that the covers on the C7 are wrapping over a pair of hidden buttresses behind the b-pillar, as seen in the Automobile spy photos.

450 horsepower from 6.2L that seems mild. Maybe 5.7L like the original LT5.
Can’t wait to see the real thing, proportions in these shots are definitely made to look awkward with body cladding…
I saw the 2014 Chevy Corvette C7 at an Auto Show; it is a very attractive sports car.
