Holden’s Devereux Confirms Daytona 500 Reveal Of Chevrolet SS

In a recent interview with Australia’s GoAuto, Holden chairman and managing director Mike Devereux excitedly boasted about the upcoming reveal of the Chevrolet SS during the 2013 Daytona 500 NASCAR race, confirming previous rumors. It’s a big deal because the new Chevy sport sedan will be revealed in front of an estimated half-million people with another several million tuning in from their televisions.

Additionally, the SS will be the name Chevy uses in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series. The Chevy SS will be what Australians will come to know as the Holden VF Commodore, as they will be essentially the same vehicle with minor visual differences.

  1. I still can’t believe they named it the “SS”. It’s not like Chevrolet has run out of model names in the lexicon closet….

  4. I wonder what Chevy will do for all the preliminary stuff like qualifying, practices, the pre season all star race. Run with camo decals?

Will be very interesting. I am glad they are trying to push the win on Sunday, sell on Monday model.

  5. they should call this the new chevy chevelle….everbody knows SS as being a sport trim to other chevy car….not a good move GM and if it does look exactly the same as the austrailan counterpart, you would be wasting more of everyone times…..Come on Gm you been doing good, dont do something so stupid -_-

  6. What is the deal with GM and these long waiting period? By the time the car is revealed it willbe anti-climactic. Aren’t they going to run the new car in all the qualifying races before the 500? For some reason GM thinks waiting is a good thing.

    1. I should point out that the present Camaro was launched as a concept on January 6, 2006 at the NAIAS. Wagoner announced production on August 10, 2006.

Mid 2009 the Camaro was launched as a 2010 model.

I guess I was going to use this post to point out that we waited longer for the Camaro, but I guess you’re more right than you are wrong.

      What’s the friggin’ hold up?

  7. Hey Manny/Alex, have you guys gotten any tips from dealers about the SS? I read that there was a preview event for select dealers out in Las Vegas last week that showcased the SS along with the next gen Silverado and Tahoe. Any truth to that, and more importantly, any pictures??? I’m guessing GM probably collected cell phones beforehand to prevent such an occurance, but I was really hopeful to catch a sneak peak!! Waiting until Daytona is just agony…

Any chance on the SS making an appearance as a “concept” at the LA Auto Show? I know its wishful thinking…

    1. We’ll see what we can find out. Things have been very tight-lipped, especially regarding the new trucks and SUVs.
