GMC celebrated this week’s arrival of the the 2012 NFL regular season and the Kick-off event in style on Tuesday, September 4th by flooding New York’s Times Square with a fleet of 33 GMC Sierra full-size trucks with logos of the NFL and its 32 teams.
The real power lies in the numbers, as the Sierra 1500s make for some very impressive capability when added up: using 33 Sierra 1500 extended cabs with the 5.3 liter Vortec V8 and the standard bed length, the trucks equate to:
- 62,964 pounds of payload, the weight of 67,162 footballs weighing 15 ounces each, as required by the NFL rulebook
- 320,100 pounds of towing capacity, the weight of 1,067 NFL linemen at 300 pounds each
For the 2012 NFL season, GMC will continue its existing “Never Say Never” ad campaign. In addition to being the “Official vehicle of the NFL,” the brand is also serving as the official vehicle of ESPN’s Monday Night Football, the Denver Broncos, and the Carolina Panthers.
Reflecting on the common values of GMC and the NFL, GMC advertising and promotions director Craig Bierley stated that “GMC and the NFL share an image founded on toughness and durability. Just as the football season ahead will showcase players stretching the limits of athletic ability, GMC vehicles are engineered for performance and longevity”, he said.
