As labor talks between General Motors and the Canadian Auto Workers union continued past the midnight deadline, an indefinite extension of the current contract was implemented while labor talks proceed. In addition, CAW President Ken Lewenza told The Detroit News that the union would give GM as well as Chrysler, at least 24 hours’ notice before any work stoppage is ordered.
“We weren’t looking for a strike, we’re looking for a settlement,” Lewenza said.
