Chevrolet Spark, Sonic, Cruze And Volt Set August Record Sales In U.S. Market

August turned out to be a pretty solid month for Chevrolet, especially for its compact models, each of them posting individual records. While it’s the Spark’s first-ever August in America, it sets the record by default, so there’s not much to take away from that. However, the Sonic finished second to the Nissan Versa in unit sales of the segment with an August-best, while the Cruze proved it’s still appealing by winning its segment for the month outright. And it managed to do it without a hatch or coupe body variant. Lastly, the Volt set a new all-time monthly sales record with 2,831 units — a number that continues to swell as the months go on.

  1. Imagine how many Cruze they could sell if they offered more body styles. Now they won’t add more variants because they still led the segment. The higher gas goes, the more small cars will be popular. Been happening since the 70’s!

  2. Unfortunately, the problem with the Spark is while it offers great highway miliage, the gas tank is smaller and that lowers the overall range of the car. That said, you end up filling up more and don’t end up saving all that much on gas. Additionally, the smaller engine doesn’t provide much power and eats up more gas in the city, especially when idling and that also lowers any gas savings you were looking to get from this car.

    1. ?????????

Because the tank is smaller you use more gas?

And a smaller engine uses more gas than a larger engine in the city?

    3. You could probably also tell me why square wheels are better than circle.

The real problem with small cars is that the more small/ stubby you go the less aero dynamic. So while you are getting lighter with a smaller vehicle the weight:MPG savings is offset because of the brick shape.
