The elegant hills and wine making countryside outside of San Francisco, California will experience a weekend’s worth of ruckus as the World Touring Car Championship comes to compete on the 2.52-mile (4.06 km) Sonoma Raceway. With it will not only be a unique chance for Americans to spectate, but to also watch the Chevrolet Cruze WTCC team drop trou on the likes of SEAT and BMW.
If all goes right for the team, Chevrolet can mathematically clinch its third WTCC manufacturer’s title in a row. In order to do so, the team will have to score more than 42 points over BMW and 37 more than SEAT in California.
Qualifying will take place on Saturday, September 22 at 2:45 PM PT. The first race will begin Sunday, September 23 at 12:15 PM PT, with the second happening at 1:30 PM PT.
This will also mark the only time Americans will get to see the Chevrolet WTCC team race on home turf, as the team will be exiting the racing league at the end of the season.
Comment
Chevy’s exit from WTCC shows how unserious they are about turning Cruze into a performance variant/car. Meanwhile at Ford, the Focus ST wins hearts, minds and sales. Rather unfortunate.
