Starting this fall, the Buick Regal will come standard with a 36 mpg eAssist powertrain — a configuration that was previously a $2,000 option. It’s new base price for the 2013 model year reflects this, Â climbing $27,055 from last year, to $29,015.
But if it’s a more engaging drive you’re after, the 220-horsepower, 2.0L turbocharged Ecotec engine will now be a no-cost option. This move mirrors what Buick did with the LaCrosse when it began offering its 3.6L V6 as a no-cost option to the standard eAssist powertrain.

they shoulda tweak the engine to 250hp
Spot on, Vic.
Give me 280hp and shut the front door allready…
303 HP LFX for Regal and Malibu.
Just what the slow selling Regal needs, a higher base price! Words of wisdom if interested in any version of the Regal: “Buy it used and save a bundle”!
The reason the Regal isn’t selling 4,000 units a month is because it’s squeezed between the LaCrosse and Verano. Most of the volume in the midsize segment is in the soft-lux area where the ES, MKZ, and LaCrosse exist — while the Regal is stuck with the overflow between the Verano and LaCrosse.
Condemming the Regal’s sales is like criticizing the Lexus GS for only moving 2,000 units a month while the ES sells twice that. Both are about the same size but appeal to different consumers.
Buick is vying to become a luxury brand; it may as well command a luxury price with the appropriate options — which this 2013 model delivers.
wait is the current ES and GS about the same size? I thought the current new ES is about the same size as the new Avalon?
The data does’nt lie, Regal sales are sliding while competitors like VW CC and even Acura TSX are having modest increases. I don’t disagree that Verano is taking a portion of the business from Regal? Sure it is, which raises the question, “What’s the point of having the Regal”? Honestly I was hoping for more. GM has done little to promote the car? A few ads for the GS when it came out? That’s about it. Where’s the celebrity endorsement? No Peyton Manning, no Shaq, no Marisa Miller? Too bad, this car deserved better.
The Regal is a beauty, so is the Lacrosse. Is to bad the regal does not have the V6. LFX323HP I agree wait for the right used one, right mileage and enjoy…
