This Ecotec-Powered Dragster Runs The Quarter Mile In 6.75 Seconds

Apparently, this dragster with Pontiac G6 bodywork ran a 6.75 at 206 MPH at Napierville Dragway in Quebec, Canada — setting a record of some kind. But that’s not what why we’re writing about it; no, this one’s pertinent because it’s powered by a boosted 2.0 liter Ecotec making a crazy 1,000 horsepower.

We say “apparently” because the results haven’t been independently confirmed just yet… but if all checks out, the fact that an object on four wheels powered by a turbo-charged two liter GM mill — similar before any mods to the unit found in the Buick Regal Turbo, Regal GS, Verano Turbo, Malibu Turbo, and the Opel Astra OPC — can do this kind of thing is pretty sick, nonetheless, wouldn’t you say?

  1. Is the 2.0 Turbo on the ATS a different engine?

    1. A little bit yes.. Similar to how the 3.6DI the LLT (think 2009 CTS and 2010 Camaro V6, etc) is different, but all very much similar to the new 3.6DI LFX (2012 CTS, 2012 Camaro, ATS, etc)

I read somewhere that the ATS 2.0 was designed from the ground up, but I’m pretty sure that was miss-quoted as it is more so a rework LNF (Cobalt SS, Regal GS.. well the cars listed in the article above).

      1. Thanks for the info. I looked into the issue myself as well. From what I could uncover, the 2.0T on the ATS is part of the Generation 3 Ecotec engine line, the other being the new 2.5L I4. So far, this 2.0T is exclusive to the ATS. The 2.0T used on everything else from the Verano Turbo from the old Solstice GXP is part of the Generation 2 Ecotec design.
