Opel Australia has announced its initial dealership lineup, which consists of 17 stand-alone facilities that only sell Opel vehicles in their showrooms. Opel was quick to point out that most of these showrooms are purpose-built for the brand, as well.
The inceptive list of Opel stores in Australia is as follows:

The brand will announce full specifications of its Australian line-up as well as pricing closer to launch, which is scheduled for the fall 2012 timeframe. Currently, the brand’s website lists the Corsa, Astra, and Insignia.

This could be an interesting way to create that “Buick” level line and boost production in Australia. I would think the cars will be produced in Australia but wonder why they would not go with the British branding – Vaxhall – in an English speaking country?
This has nothing to do with Austrailia being an English speaking country. English is spoken in Ireland, and Opels are sold there, so that eliminates that idea.
It likely has everything to do with Opel having more clout than Vauxhall does.
I didn’t know that Opels were sold in Ireland. However, the history of violence between Ireland and Britian might be why Opels are sold there and not Vauxhall.
Australia has a proud and strong British history so that’s why I think it’s odd they woud go with the Euro branding.
We have a British connection in Canada too, except if you asked about, only the old folks would remember Opel whereas nobody knows what a Vauxhall is.
