In an issue that will affect mostly rental car companies, GM has issued a recall on 2,070 2012 Chevrolet Captiva Sport crossovers in order to fix a separated parking brake cable on models built from April 26, 2012 through May 17, 2012, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
Chevrolet dealers are tasked with repairing the faulty parking brakes, with repairs expected to begin July 18.

I’ve seen some of these guys on used car lots already. One was at a Lincoln Dealer. If GM won’t sell them to the public new, why would they let the public buy them used? Shouldn’t they buy them back and send them out of the Country? I don’t understand the whole thought behind the fleet only. They will be in the public’s hands at some point.
There is nothing wrong with the Captiva to elicit the effort of buying them and then sending out of the country. It’s not like its a dangerous or unsafe product to do that. The only reason these are not sold new to consumers is the success of the Equinox. They don’t want to muddy the message. Doesn’t matter as much on the used side.
my captiva has been unsafe ( stalling on the freeway) and a very very costly adventure to say the least! Worse car by far I have ever owned
Didn’t say there was anything wrong with them! Would consider one to replace my HHR! Especially if I could get a 4 wheel drive. For me the Equinox is to BIG. Where are the Captivas built?
Equinox too big??? The Captiva (old Saturn VUE, built in Mexico) and the Equinox are almost exactly the same size. Sure you’re not thinking of the Traverse?
South Korea Thailand Vietnam Russia Kazakhstan Uzbekistan
They are built in Mexico, where your HHR was built…
Yeah I forgott Mexico and Bedrock.
Fairly certain this will be one of our next vehicles, by the way people buy cars directly from companies like enterprise all the time and save allot of money…
It’s such an uncompetitive car though! MAYBE if it was updated like the Opel than it would do better, but the equinox is still such a good vehicle.
Does this vehicle use the same platform as the old Saturn Vue? They sure look similar.
Earth to Ray come in Ray… Hello…
Congratulations, Yabadabadoo! As with every discussion forum, there’s always a smartass in the group, and you’re obviously ours.
Ray, just call me captain obvious… Kidding aside here is a post from GMA:
Despite this Theta II-based compact crossover being called the Chevrolet Captiva, it bears no similarities to the global Captiva at all (oops). The car is in fact, literally, a Saturn Vue with a Chevy grille and badge. Some may also look at it as an Opel Antara, either way it doesn’t change a thing.
Bejma, same platform yes; same size NO… The Captiva/Vue is smaller…
The Equinox is 188 inches and the Captiva is 185. Saying that 3 inches makes a vehicle too big is my point.
Is that the wheelbase oe from front to end, that would tell the real story…
Beja, check your sources…
Captiva overall length: 180.1 wheelbase: 106.6
Equinox overall length: 187.8 wheelbase: 112.5
Fairly certain these are very different sized vehicles, thus the Captiva/Vue is infact smaller than the Nox. But if you ever saw these two vehicles even remotely close to each other than you allready new this…
I have a 2009 Equinox (the older one) and I saw a Captiva parked nearby. It is “rounder” (has more curves) and is less taller than the Equinox, so it does look smaller. But the Captiva’s internal room is what should be compared with the newer Equinox, which is slightly smaller than the older Equinox that I have.
I own a 2010 Equinox LT 4cyl and yes, I have seen them close to each other and I still stand by thought that there is very so little difference in size that it does not make sense to eliminate the Equinox from consideration due to the size difference compared to the VUE/Captiva. The government even considers them the same, thus the same classification – Compact Crossover…
I am a proud owner of a 2012 Captiva and love it. Perfect sized crossover. Thought mine was made in Canada.
I own a 2012 captiva sport the only problem I have is my insurance is crazy because it has sport in the name what is sporty about it . It is not 4 wheel drive is it because you can switch it to manual really I pay 3 times as much as I paid for my Sedona for insurance
