GM India Sells 7,364 Cars In June 2012 – By The Numbers

General Motors sold 7,364 vehicles during the month of June in India. The Chevy Beat, known elsewhere around the world as the Spark, sold 5,236 units — representing a record sales month for the model.

But the division remains conservative on future sales estimates, saying that overall market conditions “remain sluggish” and that “market sentiments continues to remain depressed”. For comparison, The General sold over 10,000 units in April of 2010 in India.

For its part, the revised Tavera SUV has a backlog of orders due to a supply constraint at a vendor, which is undergoing a strike. In addition, the languid sales pace has caused GM to pause production for a day at the end of June at both of its manufacturing plants in India to better match market demand. The automaker will soon replace the Aveo line with the Sail while launching a light commercial vehicle from GM’s Chinese partners.
