If you’ve always been a fan of the brooding mystique surrounding the cult-favorite Buick Regal Grand National, chances are you’re impatiently waiting for the release of Black Air: The Buick Grand National Documentary to release this coming December. But if you’re around, or desire to make the trip to the National Trail Raceway in Hebron, Ohio on August 4 for the Buick Performance Group national meet, you’ll catch the opening 20 minutes.
Directed by Andrew Filippone Jr, the documentary features veteran automotive writers and elder GM employees involved in the Grand Nationals development along with the following its developed over the years. A pissed-off member of the Buick family from 1984-1987, the Grand National packed a turbocharged 3.8L V6 and was capable of leaving a trail of rubber and tire smoke that was — and still is — highly uncharacteristic of a Buick to do. We feel compelled to clear our schedule for August 4, even if Ohio is the worst state ever.

Maybe I’m too hopeful, but is it just a coincidence that GM re-trademarked Grand National just weeks ago?
Coincidence.
