As compact discs look to find new lives as wall ornaments, Chevrolet has decided not to offer a traditional CD player in the 2013 Spark, opting to go with a completely digital offering.
This makes the Spark the first modern Chevy to omit the mechanism, which as most of us can remember, was huge in the ’90’s, and led to us owning multiple folders of discs that we would attempt to filter through at a stoplight for our favorite Blink-182 and The Offspring albums.

No big loss, I only ever carried 5ish CDs with me back in the day, my current car and last car both have factory 6disc and my ex was the only one to use a CD in it
I’ve only ever used the 6 disc unit in my car a grand total of 3 times in its ownership.
I find music too distracting when driving anyway.
Good move GM, its and added expense that no won will really use, i dont think omitting it for a car like the malibu is a good move just yet, but for the spark its perfectly appropiate.
Can I be honest with you all. I have had my Regal GS since December of 2011 and I have NEVER played a CD in it. I get in, plug in my iPhone and never look back. I’m not saying that CDs are completely going away, but it seems the masses agree that digital media is the way to go. It’s so much easier and hassle free.
CDs are digital media. I think what you mean is solid state media (ie no moving parts), right? I agree, either way. In a few years I expect to see the area where the CD player used to be to have a slot for a micro SD card, a USB slot for a thumb drive, and a socket for an iPhone/iPod/iPad, and possibly some new slot that we haven’t even thought of yet. And of course…there is the Cadillac of digital media players: “The Cloud”.
Unevitable.
It reminds me back in 1995 when I splashed out $500 on a Cd changer for the car I had. It was the best thing since sliced bread.
But like LPs, cassettes CD’s are going to disappear out of homes and cars and into museums.
CDs are done for. Good call.
i only ever listen to the radio in vehicles. never my own music, thats how i find new stuff is the info button while driving.
I enjoy learning new words on GMA such as unevitable…
