Ordering A New GM Car Or Truck? Use GMConnects To Track It

If you’ve ever had the pleasure of ordering a brand new car only to wait, wait, and wait on signs and signals from GM, your dealer, and everyone in between about the car’s delivery status, then GMConnects will hit close to home. The service, found at www.GMconnects.com, allows you to track your GM vehicle order from the factory all the way through delivery and beyond. All you need to do is enter your order number, the state of the dealer where you placed your order, as well as your email address — and the service will provide you with constant updates about your car’s whereabouts in the GM manufacturing and delivery pipeline.
Started back in 2009 during the launch of the fifth generation Camaro, GMConnects was first known as CamaroTracking. That was an interesting time when enthusiasts have placed their Camaro order but could not get any information about its status. So co-founders Hylton Jorssen — whose work you already may be familiar with here at GM Authority — and Larry Miller convinced some folks at The General that there was an opportunity to greatly enhance the buying experience. Not surprisingly, the service went on to track over 50 percent of all sold Camaro orders.
With that came demand to track orders of other models and GM brands. The service is now used not only by end-users, but also by dealers who wish to keep their customers up-to-date about the status of their order. So if you’re planning on ordering that hot new Caddy ATS, the recently-announced Buick Verano Turbo, or GM’s upcoming line of all-new trucks, now is a good time to add GMConnects.com to your bookmarks.
As for Hylton and Larry — they now have a team of five and remain an independent organization with hopes of cementing their relationship with The General in the near future.
The GM Authority Take
Never mind the fact that Hylton and Larry were the first to identify the need for tracking a vehicle from production to delivery — or that GMConnects was the first to introduce this kind of process in the automotive industry. The simple fact of the matter is that the GMConnects team represents what America was founded on: innovating for the sake of a better offering, and being rewarded for this innovation. And for that, we tip our hats their way.
COOL, Alex!!!!!!!
Great info, Alex.
The GM Connects sounds great. Now if I could just go online to GMs websites, configure the vehicle I want, get a price quote and order, it would be outstanding. This would avoid the entire dealership buying experience which more often then not is less than satisfactory. Usually the sales persons know far less about the vehicles I’m interested in that I know. They give mis information — sometimes throught there lack of knowledge and sometimes purposely. Recently I was told by a dealer that there were no Acadia AWD in the entire state of Texas. I went on line to various dealer websites in a few minutes fouind six — then I drove 4 hours to purchase it.
I would like to order from GM like I can order from Dell.
It will be a long time before this opens as the dealers have things locked up legally with dealership laws.
my dealership I ordered from has gone above and beyond–I ordered a Chevy 2500HD Oct. 21st 2020–finally got a build date of Jan 18th ,2021–a week or 10 days before Jan 18 the build date vanished into thin air. Started by contacting dealer ship ,no info could be found on cancelation. Contacted Chevy Customer Service–Texting back and forth for 30 minutes, new less when done than I did at beginning of conversation–no idea when the order would be addressed….absolutly no answer to why they had no idea on build after 90 days wait–still waiting,–THANKS G M
CORRECTION: “sometimes through their lack of knowledge and sometimes purposely”
Wayne: that’s exactly the way I see car buying going.
As an Inventory Manager who makes every effort to supply our salespeople and their clients with accurate infomation, I see this as a great way to show the customer that we are being straight with them on order tracking. We have very few problems in this area.
Does this tracking begin the day the Canyon is ordered from the dealer? If not, when does it kick in? I ordered my truck two months ago and learned today that it will be assembled next week. But today when I put in my required info to track the order, the answer I get back is they have no record of my truck (based on my order number and email address). Is that because they haven’t begun the assembly process yet? Thank you, Ron
Ron : Having the same problem with my 2500HD Silverado. Ordered a couple of weeks ago. Submited code on web-site with no reply. I think there is a huge gap in their tracking system. Good luck with the Canyon
Here is a good one. Ordered a truck – 2500HD back in October. I was told it would arrive in 10-12 weeks. At 10 weeks I called to check status and was told the salesman I ordered from was no longer with the dealership. I was then transferred to another salesman who looked at the order. He told me it had a status code of “99” and he didn’t know what that was. He said he would call back after he checked on Monday.
Can anyone tell me what “99” is?
After he didn’t call back I called the dealer and asked for the sales manager. A week later I then got a call from a salesman who told me that he would be taking over the order> He tried to find me another truck in inventory but I told him I ordered the truck I wanted and I just wanted a status. He said he would check and keep me posted.
Two weeks went by and no calls. I then fired off some emails to the owner of the dealership and the sales managers. In 15 minutes I got a call from the sales manager who told me that there was some sort of shutdown over the holidays and he would check on the order as soon as he could. This is now 16 weeks from the deposit I put down and the original order. He called me back and said there is no “TPW” listed yet and when there is it will be 6-12 weeks out. He claims the order was accepted. Does this mean the original order was lost and this is on a re-order?
Which brings me back to my original question… What is a code “99”?
misfitz,
If I was to summarize my purchasing experience with my local GMC dealer it would be a carbon copy of what you just explained. Ordered a 3500HD in December, waited 8 weeks, called the dealer to find out the sales person I worked with was no longer there, no TPW, slow down at the factory, 6-12 weeks out. etc. etc. We’re either getting the runaround our its a weird coincidence. Let me know what your total wait was when and if you receive your vehicle.
I ordered and deposited on a 2018 Terrain Denali about 2 weeks ago and received a 3000 code from my salesman. They are now saying that there is a TPW date of 8/21/17. Originally was told about 10 to 12 weeks so may still be well within the time stated at the sales desk. I do have a 1st acquisition so should be receiving 2 weeks before others… We’ll see
I ordered a 3500 Denali srw April 10 and order was sent April 21. I checked today on status and a manager confirmed order sent in on 21. If I understand the status sheet he printed off showing the tracking of the truck, this truck has been sitting at the auto transport yard for 3 weeks already. Wtf???.now I’m told salesman is gone on holidays till July 28, meaning I’m expected to wait another 3 weeks. Any recommendations other then canceling order which I’m already considering.

Every dealer online that I search I find a vehicle and the starting price, just to find out its not there, deposit or in transit….and it will be up online for weeks after the call…..oh and the price is to die for….they are worse with this no haggle than before…they lowball you and then make you do a circus act with all the hoops you need to go thru for that great price and you cannot qualify for them all even to get to that price……..I go to buy what i want not what they want to sell me…
