OnStar Reaches 450,000 Subscribers In China

General Motors has just announced that Shanghai OnStar has reached 450,000 subscribers in China while delivering 13.8 million Turn-by-Turn Navigation requests since launching in October of 2009. The subscriber growth represents 50,000 customers since February of this year, when the telematics service had 400,000 customers, denoting a growth of 50,000 subscribers per a three-month period. OnStar currently has an estimated 6 million subscribers in North America.

But The General’s telematics subsidiary isn’t about to stop there, as it recently announced plans to partner with European cellular carrier Telefonica and some reports predict a further expansion to the Middle East and South America. In other words, OnStar is about to get a lot more global than it ever has been.
