As the launch of the next generation Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban, GMC Yukon, and Cadillac Escalade approaches, installation of new tooling and equipment required to build them will limit vehicle production of the current models out of GM’s Arlington, TX Assembly in 2013. This is why General Motors has announced a third shift to provide the plant the necessary production capacity during this transition period.
The new shift is expected to add 800 new jobs and will enable Arlington Assembly to both meet current market demand for the current generation of full-size SUVs and provide a break for some overworked employees, some of whom have been punching in the overtime hours since the fourth quarter of 2009.
