Cadillac Racing Goes First, Third At 2012 Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix

Right from the get-go, pole winner Randy Pobst was involved in a massive collision that totaled his K-PAX Racing Volvo S60. The collision was massive enough to cause a full-course caution for over half of the race.

Despite the ruckus, Johnny O’Connell was able to grab and keep a Georgian vice grip on the lead for the duration of the race, completing 22 laps, with a fastest lap time of 1:27.582 around the 2.08 mile track and an average speed of 85.497 mph with his Cadillac CTS-V Coupe race car. He was able to hold off rival Lawson Aschenbach in his Porsche 911 GT3 while teammate Andy Pilgrim was able to hold off K-PAX Racing driver Alex Figge in his Volvo S60 for third. Compared to qualifying, the O’Connell managed to advance one spot from pole position while Pilgrim held fast.

Be sure to check in tomorrow afternoon for the second race of the SCCA Cadillac V-Series Pirelli World Challenge at Belle Isle.
