2014 Chevrolet SS Expected To Be Unveiled During 2013 Daytona 500

With Chevrolet racing an SS stock car in the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, it only made sense that the brand would tie the unveiling of the upcoming limited-run 2014 SS sedan that’s going to be available for consumption with some sort of major race. And according to Australia’s Drive, that race will be the 2013 Daytona 500. That’s Thursday, February 21, 2013.

The race garners a huge audience — with 36.5 million viewers recorded for this past Daytona 500 — making the event the perfect stage for Chevy to show off the highly anticipated Pontiac G8 successor. Can we wait that long? Better yet, will the automotive media at-large keep themselves from spoiling Chevy’s surprise?

  1. I’m calling shenanigans… seems pretty silly to unveil at a NASCAR race when you have the Detroit Auto Show a month earlier. I gotta believe that if you’re GM you want to the SS to be in showrooms for the summer months… January seems like a good time for the prototype to start hitting the circuits with production shortly following. Not to mention that whole importing thing! Who knows though… January… February… I guess I’m splitting hairs. As long as I can see it in person at next year’s NYIAS and buy it a few months after that, I’ll be happy!

    1. I agree that it should be earlier, but not at the Detroit Auto Show. That will just steal some of the spotlight from the Corvette, which is unveiled at the DAS. The Corvette deserves all the attention it can get, and I have a feeling it will be a big generation.

      1. I don’t necessarily think it would steal any of Corvette’s thunder, or vice versa. If anything I think it puts Chevy and GM at the center of Detroit’s sports car talk. Could be too much for the hippies though….

  2. I also feel that the next generation Corvette will likely be the last generation with V8 engine as the exclusive power plant.
And that alone makes me sad.

  3. Ok my issue is speedweeks and testing all begins in January, along with winter testing for the Chevy teams. I know the nascar version will hardly mirror a production one, but we’re going to have to see the appearance and nose of the SS here in the 2012 calendar year because the teams will be using those cars this coming fall/winter. Either way, I’m due for a vehicle in 2014, and will be pumped to see the next gen Silverado, Lacrosse and SS.

    1. It’s gonna be closer than you might think. Reference the already released Charger and Fusion to see just how close it may be.

  4. There’s no way GM can keep the SS secret ’till then, to much testing to be done prior to the 500. Remember the Aussie press is going to be all over this too!! We’re bound to see spy shots from down under (sedan, wagon & ute) besides, I can’t wait that long, this thing’s gonna drive me crazy!!
