For the 2013 model year, the smallest Buick is getting a two-liter turbo-charged engine (in the Verano Turbo), three new safety features, and two new colors. Unfortunately, this particular RPO list doesn’t mention the new 2.5 liter Ecotec as a replacement for the staid 2.4 — but that may be because it won’t be available right away for the 2013 model year. Here are the changes to the 2013 Verano:
Deletions
- (UEW) AM/FM/SiriusXM stereo with MP3 CD player, USB and AUX port, MP3/WMA playback, iPod support, 7″ color LED touch screen display

that blue is pretty
Hmm. Welcome to horsepower wars version 2.0 turbo.
Will ford tweak its 2,0 turbo to beat the gm unit?
More than likely.
Alex, any idea when we’re gonna see the Malibu 2.5 and the Malibu Turbo on sale and what the gas mileage ratings will be? Thanks.
Malibu 2.5 should be launching this summer, the 2.0 will follow in the fall. Mileage hasn’t been released yet. But we can safely assume the 2.5 will out-perform the outgoing 2.4.
Sounds like the 2.5 will be everywhere soon……………..should be quieter and a bit more go power…….glad to hear it…..
liking the new shade of blue too as well as the ‘Q-Ship” styling. The Verano’s lack of punch has always been one of its flaws so glad to see that this new turbo model will solve that annoying quirk
Q-Ship?
Please GM, just give us one, just ONE decent hatch made in America that isn’t flawed in some way. Don’t tell me you can’t make a profit on one. The truth is you and Ford just don’t know how to design one. That much is clear. (The Focus seats don’t fold properly, so what’s the point of the added cargo room when nothing can sit right in it? This will skew sales figures toward the sedan, then GM will point to that and say we don’t want hatches.)
If designed correctly, I would buy a Verano hatch with a 2.0T in a second. I see the Golf GTI everywhere, and that comes with VW’s dubious reliability and repair costs. The Sonic, a year after launch, still cannot be had with a turbo where I live, despite being the basis for most reviews. And its interior is cheap and poorly designed. One would think something in the Verano class could net GM a profit.
This issue just has me boiling. The more I read this site the more convinced I am that Mazda is the way to go.
Not sure about the blue….will have to see it….lots of people will like it, I’m sure…..the bronze is very sharp as is the Cyber gray…..the 2.5 update is probably what I would get……the turbo should really fly out the door!
Alex/Manoli, what’s the word on the 2.5, I thought we would be seeing this by now…
Nothing on the 2.5. Zilch!
It’s coming, but may arrive once the 2013 Verano is already in production, hence no RPO changes yet.
I’m confused. On Buicks, and most other cars, don’t the little side vent thingies (I’m sorry, I’m totally drawing a blank on the name of them) indicate the cylinders in the engine? There are 3 (6 cylinders) in this pic, but isn’t this a I4?
Port holes. And yes, it’s a contradiction. Looks like they no longer stand for anything.
Portholes are still a nice little tradition; I like the look….four instead of six would be nicer. I really like them on the hood 🙂
Yes, while im really not too fond of them, they do add a touch that screams Buick, so I let them pass, but they should definitely match the number of cylinders in the car.
ALEX, STILL LIKE THE PORTS ON HOOD…..RATHER COOL…..I DO THINK THE BLUE IS QUITE NICE THE MORE I SEE IT ON THIS CAR…SAW IT ON SRX AND LOOKED LIKE A CIRCUS CAR!!!!! AWFUL
I still don’t understand why they have 6 venti ports instead of 4?
I wonder if Buick uses the same ports on all their cars…….I like them on top of hood instead of on the sides….this car reminds me of the ATS in so many ways….the 2 liter will really make it desirable
My GS only has 4. They used to determine the size of the engine. 8 cylinders had 8, 6 cylinders had 6 etc.
Yes, Tim…you are corrrect……maybe it will be updated but does not bother me really……
It doesn’t bother me either, I just figured they’d stay with heritage.
Yes, Tim….as careful as Buick was with every other detail, I was rather surprised they did not use the 4 instead of 6 style….yet, I really love the way the ports sit in the upper hood edge….very good choice and out of the box
Now I’m wondering. Could they have actually made the Verano Turbo’s portholes “functional”, unlike my GS’ which are not? Maybe that’s why it has six. Better heat escape?
Good question. The portholes could be used for heat extraction, but to my knowledge, would need to be considerably larger in size to funnel the heat in any effective capacity… unless there is some clever way of directing airflow from the airdam through the engine bay and out through the portholes.
I thought the same thing…as least have an opening so they can work…even if it doesn’t do very much…they currently only hold water!!
Yeah Alex, the holes technically are too small, but I figure any hole that would allow heat to escape would be a good thing. I also checked in mine to see of there is a way to make them functional. On the GS, you can’t. The ventiports are situated right above where the hinges mount to the hood. My only hope now is that perhaps SLP will make some good parts for this car. A new hood would be on my shopping list, although the OEM aluminum hid is great.
Yeah I hear you. I wouldn’t dare touch the beautiful OEM design of the GS with what will most likely be an overly aggressive aftermarket design element. But that’s just me 🙂
Hey GM Authority ! I like the Verano, but how about this? The Verano Estate Wagon for us wagon lovers. If not the Cruze, mayge the Verano in a bonafided station wagon. I feel this would create more marketshare for Buick, and I’m ready for a Buick Estate Wagon. Believe me in the circle of people I’m with a wagon is a slam dunk, easy money, easy sell, all in all … a great idea. Break the mold GM and take the lead.
Yes, a station wagon…we all grew up with them……instead of suvs…I think a lot of people would just love this!
I’m with Brad on this one. There are a lot, an awful lot, of older wagons on the road because you can’t buy them anymore. My wife’s 10 year old Saturn L300, upgraded almost to the point of being a Buick, has a blue book value of about 7K, and I would not take twice that for it. It was recently rear-ended, and it’s been a fight with the insurance companies to get it repaired. Of course, they want to just Total it.
Some people value the improved handling and economy of a wagon over a high-riding and heavier SUV/CUV. To me, the latter involves a huge waste just to ride a little higher and not have to squat to get in/out. (Are Americans really that fat and lazy?) I also like that the roof of a wagon isn’t so high for hoisting my sea kayak, and my wife struggles to reach the raised lift gate on some hatches, so CUVs are even more problematic.
A Verano wagon with the 2.0T, or better yet, a diesel, would be an instant sale to our household. But would GM build such a vehicle for the U.S.? I think the probability is close to zero. This would take reading market potential rather than market history.
I think there is a greater probability of the Cruze wagon coming to market than there is a Verano wagon. No luxury brand wants to touch the segment flr whatever reason. Even Volvo is dropping its legendary V70 and V50 in favor of its crossovers.
The only exception to that seems to be Acura and its TSX wagon. But that’s because they have no new product and it’s easy to badge the euro-spec Accord as an Acura real quick, making it more of a “what do we got in the pile?” move rather than an offensive or filling a market need.
I wish the 2012’s came in that color…I bought a red one and I love it but….I love that blue more…
That blue is sharp on this car, especially with cashmere inteior
Is the 2013 Verano getting updated ambient lighting too? I’ve seen it mentioned on some dealer websites but can’t get confirmation that anything is different from the 2012.
Greg — negative. No lighting changes are in store for the 2013 Verano.
Alex
Alex, thanks for the update!
Greg….the lighting is very good on Verano…they may have added a bit more….check the site..it has a lot more than Cadillac already…also love the blue headlight trim
