Rick Hendrick: “I’ve Driven (The Chevrolet SS) It’s A Heck Of A Car”

Just minutes after we shared with you news of the 2014 Chevrolet SS being caught roaming the wild, we give you this. It turns out that motorsports mogul and Chevy aficionado Rick Hendrick was given the chance to drive the upcoming sports sedan.

“I’ve driven it. It’s a heck of a car,” said Hendrick. And one more thing:

“It’s got the LS3 motor and the interior is extremely nice.”

We’ll take his word for it.

  2. Hoorah!!! GM is actually going to launch a new car in the US with the best possible engine available. Maybe they have learned some painful lessons from past new car launches with less than stellar engines.

  5. Nice. LS3 is awesome! Though it might need a power upgrade to eat Chargers (470 HP).

    1. I think if the power is around 415-430 the SS will do just fine against the Charger. The SRT8 is pretty damn heavy, and from what I’ve read it sounds like Holden is really trying to shed some significant LB’s on the new Commodore/SS.

      2009 Pontiac G8 GXP: 4050 lbs
      2012 Dodge Charger SRT8: 4365 lbs

      1. Right. There’s also the slight difference in size/class — since the Charger is a full-sizer whereas the Commodore is a mid-sizer, but on the large end of midsizers.

In effect, Caprice is the direct competitor to the Charger and 300 from a size perspective, although the Caprice’s extra length doesn’t an additional 400 lbs.

      2. ^^WHAT HE SAYS^^ besides, on the street, NOBODY is afraid of SRT Chargers or Challengers. heavy (literally) on the bark, light on the bite. i don’t even worry about them and i’m just driving a N/A, mildly modded, LS2 GTO.

the SS should easily handle the Mopar buys with the LS3.

  6. It looks like my wish of this car having some tech is going to come true… not that it’s a HUGE deal, but it appears that there are the four typical backup sensors on the bumper.

If this car oozes big power AND technology, I’ll buy one for me and one for the wife!! haha… I’m sold already!!!
