New Opel City Car (Junior) To Be Officially Called Adam

Contrary to early reports suggesting the name Allegra, the upcoming Opel mini car will wear the Adam nameplate. The name was revealed in a second edition of the Opel Junior comic (which is a really cool idea, by the way) on the 8th of May. You can download the entire comic for your viewing pleasure (in PDF format) here.

So what of the Allegra name, which we thought would be the name of the vehicle? Well, Allegra seems to have been the original name for the car, which was codenamed Junior, but it appears to have been scrapped in favor of Adam.

Adam will be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show in September and is described in the comic as looking “sporty” and that “everyone will have the opportunity to dress it up the way he or she wants.”

Currently, it’s unknown whether the vehicle will share a platform with the Chevy Spark city car — as certain early reports have suggested — or use a modified Gamma II architecture shared by the Opel Corsa and Meriva.

The GM Authority Take

Can’t wait to see the sporty-looking city car? Neither can we.

But what do you think of the Adam name (besides the fact that it harkens back to the founder of Opel, Adam Opel)? Tell us in the comments.

  1. Are they planning on bringing this car to North America? The Fiat 500 is pretty popular here (Toronto).

    1. Not unless they bring it over as a Buick, which I don’t see happening. But GM has the Chevy Spark to do battle with the 500… even though it may not exactly be an apples to apples fight.
