GM-PSA Alliance To Have Opel Build Citroën C5 Successor

Historically, France and Germany rarely got along (see: Franco-Prussian War, WWI & WWII). But with GM’s deal with PSA Peugeot-Citroën, cooperation is mandatory. As such, Automotive News is reporting that Germany’s Opel will be trusted with building the next generation Citroen C5, due out sometime in 2016 carrying the “X8” codename.

It’s still unknown which Opel plant will be tasked with assembling the C5, but chances are it won’t be Bochum. Considering the Opel Insignia is built in Rüsselsheim, we could very see the next C5 built there. Reading between the lines, does this point towards the two sharing a common platform down the road? It could very well be the case.

  1. Rüsselsheim is the most likely plant to build this, strange to see no mention of the car psa will be producing for opal/vauxhall though.
