Coming as no surprise to anyone, the Chevrolet Cruze World Touring Car Championship racing team once again made the entire competition its fodder (for lack of a better word), sweeping the first race of WTCC Round 6 in Austria. Taking the top spot for Chevy in race was Rob Huff, followed by Yvan Muller and then Alain Menu, all finishing without a hitch.
Race two, on the other hand, featured some degree of surprise, as Menu didn’t finish the race due to a tire puncture, while Muller found himself in the gravel on the last lap, putting his finish in 8th place. However, Huff did manage a second place finish.
The drivers continue to hold the top three positions in drivers points by a wide margin. In first we have Muller with 206. Second is Huff with 198, followed closely by Menu with 175. Chevrolet also looks to be writing up a three-peat championship, with 495 points to second-place BMW’s 338.
The next race for Team Chevy will be the Race of Portugal, Autódromo do Algarve, Portimão, 1-3 June 2012. That’s the same weekend as the Belle Isle Grand Prix, where IndyCar, Grand Am, and the SCCA Pro Challenge series will amass upon Detroit, Michigan.

Rob and Yvan where winning in the second race but both of them had flat tires in the last lap just before the finish . Lots of front wheel driven cars like the Cruze and the Seat had in the second race flat tires due to high circuit temperatures (+52°c at the ground and 25° C air temp.) and the high speed cornering .
The Chevrolet drivers are just great , in the first race they where all three in pole position in frond of race pack but in race two the came from the middle of the pack to the the front .( I follow all the WTCC races on tv and last year I went to Zolder (BE to watch them live ). On 22-23 September of this year the WTCC comes to the United States Of America to the Infineon Raceway, Sonoma California..
They need to come to Detroit/Michigan area next! 🙂
Alex,
I totally agree, bring this team to middle America not the coast but Mosport’s better for me and we Canadians support roadracing !! Yeah !!
