Cadillac XTS Limousine And XTS-L: The Details

Several weeks ago, we brought you details of the Cadillac XTS W20 Livery Sedan — the XTS for chauffeur and delivery companies offering a Professional Vehicle Protection Plan (PVPP) extended warranty good for 3 years or 150,000 miles. The W20 will retain the regular wheelbase and length of the XTS, and we now have information about models that will be most attractive to limousine firms.

By the end of 2012, Cadillac plans to add an option that will enable companies in the Cadillac Professional Vehicles network to “up fit” the limousine model (coded VRU) by stretching it a maximum 70 inches. There will also be another vehicle, called the W30 (XTS-L) that will add up to 8 inches to the wheelbase of the regal XTS W20 for more rear-seat legroom.

Between the W20, the VRU, and the W30, Cadillac should have the market for modern luxury limousines and executive delivery vehicles cornered. For the record, we’re all for making the XTS limo the official GM Authority party car. Now, who wants to help foot the bill?

  1. Ill pick up the tab!

For the cost of painting GMA PARTY CAR on the limo.

Meanwhile, Alex will pay for the actual car.

The limo sounds like a good idea, but I dont know if theres a market for a car with 8 inches of rear legroom more than the regular. This isnt China, we like driving our cars, even if you could afford a driver. People driving a 500k car drive themselves, im sure they could afford a 10$ hour driver, but they dont want to sit in the back.

Bull! A $500K luxury car typically doesn’t focus on being a “drivers’ car”. I mean, a Rolls Royce Phantom isn’t famed for it’s driver-centric cockpit, and all reviews of Maybach (when they were around) hardly ever put emphasis on what the chauffeur feels.

You pay as much for such a car so you can enjoy sitting in the back.

      1. Well, thats not what I see. On the way to the beach one day, I saw a Rolls Royce and the man driving, by the look of him, was definitely the owner. There was maybach parked next to me once, and I got a good look inside and it was empty, then the owner came up and drove away. And maybe what you say is true.

But the XTS stretched is not going to cost 500k or have the rear seat amenities a Rolls Royce could have, its probably going to cost like 60k. And I doubt someone who buys a 60k car, can really afford to have a driver.

        1. Yet again, price says it all.

Personally, I like getting driven about; even more so when I can nap along the way. Yes, it’s rare that I ever get the chance to do both, but if I have to pay many hundreds of thousands of dollars to get it, then I guess I guess I need to start my mail order scam post haste!

As for where I’d get driven to, sadly, the beaches around here look like miniature quarrys, so I’d probably get the Phantom just to sleep in it.

  3. 70″ seems a little short, most modern limos are 120″.

    1. Lex, I think they meant it will be stretched by upto a maximum of 70″

  4. I think this is a great idea! Lincoln introduced a Town Car factory stretched years ago and was the most popular Limo used by in New York. Even in Detroit you would see them waiting for their customers at the airport. I personally have to drive myself to the Detroit airport or cab it in NYC.
Now the question will Romney get a new XTS Beast in January replacing President Obama’s DTS Beast? I wonder if this will generate any comments?.

    2. LOL ROMNEY

John, you and I share two things in common:
      1) We are both dreamers. You dream about a President named Mitt and I dream about the return of Pontiac!
      2) Neither of us will ever see these dreams come true. 🙁 haha

  6. Good point about the chassis and president too. And really The Beast was made to look like a DTS, but I have no idea what actual parts of the DTS remained – emblems maybe?…
Well with enough money they could make a new XTS Beast look like the new XTS stretched limo. Think of all the positive impressions and publicity Cadillac would receive no matter who wins the election.

    1. Likely the next gen “Beast” will look more XTS-like, but (as with the present Beast and the DTS) will likely share two bolts and the Cadillac badge with production car.

  7. You people have no idea obviously. I own several $100k limos that I pay my driver $15 ph so that I can sit in the back and relax, enjoy a movie or contemplate whatever. It’s not about the car it is about the purpose of the car. Some people like me don’t want to worry about parking or coming back to find some valet has moved the papers in the glove box. If you truly value your life and like to drink there’s one more reason to get a car and driver. Sure I drive my personal cars whenever I please but having an option or three is always smarter than having none.

  8. Finally a luxury limo comes to service, I have been owning and serving Lincoln Towncars and Limos since 2003. NOW I’m so excited to get these Caddy’s in my fleet. Super sharp and luxurious looks. Im at Van Nuys California Airport and drive many private jet clients. This will be a great marketing tool. JohnnyLImo

  9. I love those L stretched cars – fit to use in europe as well – 120″ will not be drivable in my streets. Hopefully they go for 8″ and not 6″ as it came out with the old L cars. And please do make a options for divider as well – the do that on Volvo NILSSON 300!

  10. But what about the third window behind each rear door? – I am not into those windows – maybe they can “blind” them.

  11. Well , interesting points from all of you on the XTS , I was personally involve in waiting for the XTS to come out before buying the last available Lincoln TWC LWB and no one speculated about a XTS LWB which is what I been waiting to hear from a GM dealer , Dealer lack livery vehicle it was very disappointed when the XTS came out since the end product was so diferent and destructive in the desing on the rear door and the whole line of the vehicle , for me it seem a facy modern mid size car to be driven , to be chauffeurd in , it lack indulgence in space , amenities in the rear . I can say I own a RR Phantom and a Lexus LS460L , expected the XTS to compete with a sedan like the Lexus LS but its sure far from it . so I must say GM your not puting dicipline all arround from all your vast knowledge and competition in the sedan industry .

  12. I enjoy limos in general but I must admit that the new xts can stand up to the phantom. The design is amazing and the interior is superior.
