To keep the pedal down around the bends at the Continental Tire proving grounds in Uvalde, Texas at speeds well exceeding 150 mph requires nerves of steel. But to do what Hot Rod’s Dave Freiburger did with a Lingenfelter Chevy Camaro ZL1 around this track, well that requires even more mettle.
With a furious 720 horsepower to the wheels, Freiburger piloted the special ZL1 around the long curves of the track to an amazing 202 mph — the same top speed as the 2013 Ford Shelby GT500 Mustang. The video below tells the story. As Freiburger tells it, the feat took quite a few tries, and was more complicated than simply mashing the throttle and shifting gears.
