2013 Chevrolet Equinox: RPO Central

Several much-anticipated changes are on their way for the 2013 Chevy Equinox such as a power passenger seat, the availability of new safety systems such as forward Collision Alert and Lane Departure Warning, and a new FE2 suspension setup.

In addition, the anemic 3.0 liter V6 (LF1) is replaced by the much more potent 3.6 liter LFX while the much-debated MyLink infotainment system can now be coupled with a navigation system, which was not possible for the 2012 model year.

And while Gold Mist Metallic, Mocha Steel Metallic, and Twilight Blue Metallic colors are being discontinued, three new hues are on their way, including Champagne Silver Metallic, Atlantis Metallic, and Tungsten Metallic:

Champagne Silver Metallic

Atlantis Metallic

Tungsten Metallic

  2. Assuming all changes announced for Equinox also apply to GMC Terrain. When will 2013 models be available. Many other mfgs are jumping the gun and rolling out their 2013 models now.

  3. Update to the LFX is great. Also FE2 suspension and handling, pair these together and you get the rebirth of the Equinox Sport.

  4. Mocha steel metallic is gone? I thought that was a popular color?

  5. Now you have a class leading vehicle. This is by far the best overall vehicle package in GM’s line up. They sold well before now they will really sell well.

  7. they have a problem whit a bad noise if the back window are down and the front side window are up,,,we have this problem whit 2006 and now whit the 2010 do you no wy it make this noise ..like to no if they correct this problem..

    Reply
    1. The noise you hear is very common with a lot of cars. It’s the way the wind circulates through the cabin. Cracking a front window helps change the airflow and gets rid of the noise. I’ve heard it in Rav4’s, CR-V’s, Escapes, Impala (when front window down and no rears), Taurus, Chrysler 300, and more. There is no “fix” to the problem unless they completely redid the cabin shape, etc. If you find it annoying, just crack a front window an inch.

  8. Math, all kinds of cars do this… It’s call air flow through the cabin…

    1. As is the case with most model-year updates, the 2013s will most likely be at dealers by the end of the summer.

  11. i ordered a 2012 equinox 2 weeks ago…. the dealer called me the other day saying that GM hasnt picked up the orders yet… and he will call me this wednesday to let me know if i can get a 2012 or order a 2013….. if the info you have is true, i much rather wait for a 2013, the dealer told me that there are no changes at all, is your info legit?

    1. there are changes in the 2013 in terms of engine size and mylink with nav

    2. so did they say when the 2013 release date is EXACTLY?

      Reply
      1. There aren’t any exact dates. The transition to 2013s happen during the summer. I’d expect them to start landing in late July or mid August.

    3. I checked @ a couple of dealerships and most are telling me OCT/NOV time frame. I find NOV being a little late.

    4. In all the time I’ve been coming to GMA I haven’t seen an ounce of incorrect information especially about future cars.

  12. Gold mist, Mocha and Twilight blue are good colors. I’m glad chevy is gettinbg rid of all of the good colors, this will make all the Equinoxes’ look alike in Mr Hana’s neighborhood and mine. What we have here is black, white, red and 50 shades of gray on the color chart. Not good Mr. Chevrolet. I visited the new car lot last weekend and they all looked gray to me and my wife. She’s perplexed because she wants to buy one and doesn’t like any of the colors but red. Why not get a red one? Because that’s what everyone else did.

  13. wait so is the steel green going away??

    Reply
  14. Have you seen the steel green? In all fairness it is a beautiful color up close, very close. But at 20 feet it is just another gray with a hint of green. when i found it on the lot my wife wouldn’t believe me . She had to go and read the ticket on the window to verify. She was pumped about getting a green Equinox. I can live with the color but she can’t see the green in it.

    Reply
    1. I have since I happened to have that color on my Terrain. You are right when it’s 20 ft away and being dirty at the same time it does just look gray but if cleaned up not so much…. In chinese we call it mushed green tea color (In translation). But it is a unique color. I was thinking about getting a gold or mocha steel but then the Chevy dealers here pretty much sucks and I already have a gold colored car. But overall I really like the Steel Green just don’t know why Chevy and GMC listed as a special color…

  15. For the 2013 Equinox, which color do you like more? The new 2013 blue or the ashen grey?

    1. wait sorry kind of confused here but who you talking to?

      1. Anyone, the pictures on the web are not that good, just looking for gut reactions

        Reply
        1. Well the thing is that the 2013s are not out yet so it’s kinda hard to tell

          Reply
        2. Vic is right (his comment below). Until you can see them at the dealer, it’s hard to say which color is better/nicer.
But if you want gut reactions, here’s two:

          1. Women will love the blue; men would lean more toward grey. (This, of course, is an over-generalization, and only an opinion). I have read a few comments from women who own the Equinox in blue (outgoing), who rave about how much they love the blue color.

          2. The Equinox comes in many (some would say too many) shades of grey. This could be off-putting for some customers who want a car/color that’s more unique. If that is you, get the blue.

As for myself, I am waiting to order a 2013 in Black Granite Metallic. But that new Tungsten color is worth a look before I make my final decision. So, I have come back to my first sentence, that Vic is right.

          Reply
          1. Sorry, I mean Vic’s comment ABOVE mine.

            Reply
            1. Because I myself have a Steel Green metallic color for Terrain and I like it because it looks like a mushed green color (green tea color) and you don’t get to see that color a lot on the road.

  16. GM needs to keep either Gold Mist or Mocha for colors. Either color will make Momma happy. As much as I want to purchase the Terrain Denali, Momma goes by color, and we all know if Momma ain’t happy, no one’s happy.

  17. Thanks Stan and everyone else for your thoughts. I had to order the car now, so I had to make a quick decision. For me, the decison came down to either the Tungsten , or the safe bet, the silver. Either color seems like it would be good. I have never had a blue car, and just like you said, I do like the blue, but just was not sure about the hue.
    Have a great weekend. K

  18. Is there any word if the 2013 equinox will get the 2.5L or the 2.0 l turbo like the 2013 Malibu got? The current 2.4L needs to be replaced with a better engine.

  21. I just purchased the 2013 Tungsten Metallic LTZ and love the color and the Mylink navigation. Way to go Chevy.

  23. Does the 2013 Chevy Equinox 1 lT with 4 cly engine have the same suspension as the 2012? I have read about the FE2 suspension in the 2013 but it sounds like that is only in the LTZ or with 6 cyl engines.
