While it still may be the controversy of the century for some, recent research shows that support for rescuing General Motors (and Chrysler) during the carpocalypse of 2009 is finally increasing: more than half of U.S. residents said that the decision to rescue the two automakers was the right choice, according to a recently-conducted poll by the Pew Research Center for People & the Press. The finding is a pronounced reversal since 2009, as 56 percent of those surveyed in February 2012 said that the bailout was mostly good for the economy, compared to only 37 percent who agreed with the statement in October of 2009.
In addition, 38 percent said that the auto bailout was mostly bad for the economy — a drop of 16 percentage points from 54 percent in 2009. Support for the bailout has nearly doubled from Republicans — increasing from 23 to 44 percent.
The poll was conducted using telephone interviews February 8 through February 12 with a sample size of 1,501 adults. The margin of error is 3 percentage points for the entire sample, according to study supervisors.
The GM Authority Take
Could it be that people are finally recognizing the importance of several major domestic automakers? Or the fact that GM is one of the most healthy automakers on the planet today while significantly contributing to the U.S. (and global) economies? And who knows, maybe sometime in the near future, when the government fully divests its ownership of The General’s stock, it may even walk away with a profit. Unfortunately, those against the bailout will most likely continue playing the ideology card…

They are learning.
1st thing you should ask yourself if you did not support the bailout, am I an American. 2nd question why do I drive a Toyota. 3rd question, what would Jesus do 🙂
Am I an American? Yes
Why do I drive a Toyota? I dont
What would Jesus do? Who’s Jesus? 🙂
Oh wait I did support the bailout. Never Mind.
Does my 1991 Lexus LS400 count as a Toyota?
Uh, yeah.
Or was that a rhetorical question? ;^)
It was rhetorical 🙂
Its just that I dont really like toyota but I love my LS so its kind of an inner conflict so Ive managed to convince myself that since there is no proof that the people who made the LS make regular toyotas so that means the Lexus is not a toyota in some alternate world ive made up to avoid the shame of driving a toyota.
Well 30% of the population already supports the bailout because thats the market share of GM and Chrysler.
I am sure Jesus could care less, it just seemed to fit as a good 3rd question, and since almost all the far right religious conservatives I know are against it, I figured that might make them think a little…
Well that’s the thing. Jesus, at least as I understand the guy, would have wanted to help the greatest number of people in best possible way.
I’m not aware of jesus’s business dealings, or if he even drove a car (let alone a Chev), but he’d propbably support the bailout if it ment less suffering for a percentage of people in the long term….if he wasn’t busy in some corner of the world feeding and clothing needy people.
No Matter how you spin this, this is biased and untrue.Only a Union guy or someone who is ProObozo would do this,I’ve noticed you guys Have gone the extra mile on this and other articles.specifically, The Bad and PC volt. And this is coming from a DIEHARD CHEVY GUY ,Corvette Guy/Camaro Guy and GM PRODUCTS Guy(Prior to govt interference.).
What is, specifically, “biased and untrue”?
Because Fox News says differently, and they NEVER lie!
Fox Noise has never lied to me or you once! ;^)
I am with Alex. I would like to know what is biased and untrue about reporting on what someone else’s study found. Clearly, the GMAuthority thoughts are called out so where is the bias? Now, if we said something like because of those numbers, that means everyone loves GM and hates Ford, that might be biased and may be untrue. But then again, no matter what, unless you poll every single one of us in this country, it is always just a big, partially educated guess. IMHO
Look, the Government didnt interfere with GM they provided them a loan, its actually quite common, countries around the world do it with their respective companies. These “loans” can take many forms, the Government is subsidizing Boeing as we speak, so are you going to stop flying in Boeing planes, well the problem is the only other major airplane maker, Airbus, is also subsidized by a Government, France and the EU.
Do you want to drive a Toyota, well its “interfered” in as you put it by the Japanese government or the proper term is subsidized.
Providing a big low interest loan like the U.S Gov did to GM is just another form of subsidizing and is extremely common and companies whose products you use every day have taken advantage of this at one point in time.
Its just not publicized by the media like the GM bailout, even though the bailout has been proven to be the best thing I think our Government ever did.
By the Volt’s earliest stages of development started in 2005, before even when GM was losing money, and it arguably started development even before that, when GM’s EV1 first came out as I think some engineers who worked on the EV1 also worked on the volt.
And you think the Volt was paid for entirely by Obama?
You have no idea how the auto industry works, and the Volt is more a ‘red white n’ blue’ Chevrolet than the last 2 generation Camaro’s were.
Also, the ‘PC’ stuff didn’t work before, what the hell made you think it would work again?
Fox News: Fact free since…oh, hell.
