With 7,000 preorders filled, GM Europe already believes that the Opel Ampera will meet or exceed its 10,000-unit sales target for 2012. Deliveries have been taking place since February, but the U.K. won’t begin receiving their Vauxhall Ampera until at least May 1. And according to The Detroit News, about 60 percent of Ampera customers are commercial or to fleets. Oppositely, the Chevy Volt, which launched in Europe in February, has only sold a few hundred.

Criswell Chevrolet, in Gaithersburg, MA is selling Volts like hotcakes. Hey dealers – look at what Criswell is doing. A GM-Volt.com poster drove by the dealer this morning to see 20 Volts on the lot and two in the service bays being prepared for their lucky owners.
Why is Criswell selling the snot out of Volts? Well – for one they ordered some – all colors and options – gray console, white console… For another, they’re not adding on tons of ridiculous second stickers and “supply-and-demand” halo ads on the net.
It’d be nice if other dealers took note on how to sell a Volt. I would target Prius owners and have them come in for a free latte, donut…and drive one! Any Prius owner who drives a Volt and does not come away green with envy is probably without a pulse.
