General Motors broke ground today on a new $200 million stamping facility that could add 180 jobs to its Arlington manufacturing complex. As part of the event, GM, GM Foundation and United Auto Workers leaders announced $82,000 in contributions to local charities from the GM Foundation.
The new stamping facility will generate 180 jobs on its own, and will save GM around $40 million a year in logistics costs alone. This means that the stamping plant will pay for itself in a mere five years. The facility will go online in 2013, and is additional to the $331 million in retooling announced back in May 2011 for the Arlington manufacturing complex.

I know this kind of report gets little notice, however, this is the kind of move that makes me confidant about the future of General Motors staying competitive.
