Chevrolet’s New Face VS The Old Face: Which One Do You Prefer?

When Chevy unveiled the 2014 Impala at the 2012 New York International Auto Show last week, the presentation didn’t only mark the complete transformation of its sedan lineup, but it also revealed the brand’s new corporate face. The dual-port grille split by the Chevy emblem is no more; in its place is a single upper grille boldly displaying the Chevy logo.
At this point, we can only assume that the new design of the fascia on the Impala will permeate the entire Chevy lineup in the future. But we know that many were huge fans of the outgoing dual-port design aesthetic, so we have to ask: is this a welcome design revision in your book? Let’s talk it up in the comments!

If the new design means more LEDs then I’m all for it, but of not it’s too honda esque for me.
OLD!! As I said before, I want an American Chevrolet, not a Honda!!
Two port looks better. The 2014 grill looks like the 2005. boring. Good thing the rest of the car is HOT!
I like the new design, with a single grill, and floating bowtie.
Yes, it is a very handsome car…the bow tie did well
I’ll miss the bar, but I like how the Impala grille is sharper than the Malibu’s, it looks tougher than the more rounded one on the ‘Bu.
Im for any design that does away with the over-exposed headlights
in this situation, hands down the Impala! that said i was not in the split shield/bisecting bar hate crowd. but if this more aggressive, smaller headlight/”i’m staring you down” look is the direction Chevy is headed in, i’m for it.
side note, i don’t think the finer grill bars work nearly as well on the new Chevy Traverse. that was one of the best looking bisected grill treatments Chevy had going.
New face much cleaner design less audi like
I’m thinking the dual bar grill looks better on smaller cars, but was a bit ungainly on larger vehicles (aka Traverse), so maybe the “new face” is for larger, US-Market-Only vehicles…
I do not think the bar is gone. I think the higher end Chevrolets are sporting this new grille, while smaller, economical Chevrolets keep the bar design. I doubt they would make this decision in the small time between making the Malibu and the Impala. I might be wrong, maybe they even announced otherwise, but this is my gut feeling.
JustinF, well said…
I loved the twin port grille. It was distinctive. Instantly recognizable like the old Pontiacs used to be. I will miss it.
I like the old split grill. Like everyone says here, the new one looks too much like a Honda or something. Although the new grill looks much better on the Impala than on the new Traverse.
The old grille makes everything look like a Malibu derivative (sp?), so I say new grille. I hope they use it for the next Monte Carlo, which hopefully is just around the corner.
Old one has more character , don’t like the new grille on the Cruze 2013 either.
Whichever one is more aero. Volt’s slanted split grill works very good for filling in the openings – not as much real estate to cover…That said, the Prius’ is slightly more aerodynamic and has a tiny slit up top, a larger grille below for cooling.
Purely aesthetically – the Impala is far more handsome than Malibu or Cruze IMHO. They gave it a shape that will translate well to NASCAR’s Car Of Today and it has been described on some websites as “Camaroesque”. Don’t know about that, but it has a very Chevy look to it.
Ford has a new look also. They went with a bargain Aston Martin spinoff. I like the new Ford’s look and the Impala. Both need to be canted back a bit more though and the huge gaping holes for cooling filled in for better air flow over the car – like Volt. I’m certain the Impala and Ford’s will have grille shutters in some iterations. I believe when form and function unite – it’s the best design .
Also the split-grille design on Malibu and Cruze is too busy. There’s just too much goin’ on, too many lines and chrome borders. Match that up with the lower grilles and trim and it gets plain gaudy. Give me a simple look that’s clean. That’s why my eye favors the new Impala and Traverse front ends. Nicer lights. As a designer, it’s tough to get sleek lights without them looking too complex , mean or dominating. In a sporting car – they try to get a mean, or angry look to the headlights. I don’t go for that as much. I think Corvette’s have been a good example of a sexy look that is purposeful yet not like an Angry Bird. Impala’s lights show simple, clean detail, and say speed.
I like the new it looks more refine . Like the Chevy’s of past
Think the new style grill will look good on the full size truck line. It has style yet can be made to look ”tough” better than that blunt nose look!
Love the NEW grille!
Much more refined in appearance and fits the new Impala perfectly!
Good job Chevy!
