The ninth-generation Impala is on its way out — replaced by the all-new 2014 Impala. So for its last model year on the market, the 2013 Impala will offer several minor changes. For starters, it does away with the Imperial Blue Metallic, Gold Mist Metallic, and Black Granite Metallic body colors but adds Crystal Red Tintcoat, a 150 amp alternator, and a Luxury Edition Package. Lastly, the very convenient flip-and-fold rear seat is discontinued on 1FL.

Minor correction: The luxury edition package was previously available on all LT models. The info you got may extend the PCK to the LS, but I’m not sure what kind of sense that would make. I can send you VIN codes of vehicles that we have sold with that package including all the equipment listed although the RPO code may or may not be the same.
You sure about that? Take a look at the online configurator; there’s no mention of the luxury edition package for 2012s.

I would have to hunt for others, but that one has the RPO you mentioned listed on the BARS and the build sheet. It’s a 2009 Impala LT in Mocha Bronze.
The PCK luxury edition package was discontinued on Impala after 2011 and not available on the 2012s.
Yupp, just confirmed same. Looks like it’s back!
My apologies for the incorrect correction:)
Article is about 2013 changes……
IT is still a car people love for its size and comfy ride…..beauty isn’t everything, Alex 🙂
Absolutely! I drove a Lexus ES330 for many years… I know first hand!
I’d like to see the aero numbers on the outgoing Impala. While the new version exudes quality and a very nice design, the nose on the old model looks extremely aero efficient.
GM, like all others, are working towards better economy via more efficient powerplants, but consumers require an attractive package. Looking to nature for inspiration , or “biomimetics” is one way to acheive efficiency goals. While many feel the Nissan LEAF looks like a catfish or sea bass, it’s aero numbers give it more EV range. Here’s Mercedes’ Boxfish concept – a utility vehicle that achieved a Cd ( coefficient of drag ) of 0.06 – inspired by it’s namesake, the Boxfish.

Problem is, as with Prius – car buyers often gag at a vehicle that is shaped efficiently because they expect a huge vaccume cleaner gaping grille for sucking air into an infernal cumbustion engine – it’s what they know. Most don’t understand aero unless they see a racecar or a Corvette – which was previously inspired by sharks – “Mako Shark”. Whenever I point out an aero-slippery car – most folks say it’s “ugly as sin” ???
This Impala and other older GM designs ( Cavalier ; Pontiac Sunfire )
were very slippery through the air but suffered from pathetic, heavy, inefficient engines. Isn’t it strange how we get one but not the other?
Going to try digging up some aero numbers today mate 🙂
@ Alex: Thanks! I did a bit of searching but am time constrained as it’s not readily available. Tough finding aero numbers on gen 9 also.
These designers also have to keep NASCAR in mind as I’m sure they’re already working on the stickers and templates for the 2013 NASCAR iteration.
One thing is for certain – they can ( and will ) provide grille shuttering for the Eco-Assist model as in Eco Cruze, so that’ll help. Volt retained a brand-identity grille but just filled it in…
Aesthetics, a funny thing, huh? Then there’s the extremes. Remember when Mythbusters proved that golf ball indentations in a Ford Taurus gave a significant efficiency advantage over a stock Taurus by reducing drag as it does on a golf ball? Yet who is gonna go into a showroom and buy a Chevy with golfball dimples?
Designers stay up nights trying to find a balance between what works and what consumers will buy.
THE 2014 IMPALA WHICH IS A REBADGED BUICK IS A GOOD LOOKING CAR ,BUT WHO DESIGNED THAT STEERING WHEEL?
Jeff — the new Impala is far from a rebadged Buick. The more apropos term is platform mate. Just like the Lexus ES is to the Toyota Avalon.
You are correct Alex, a much more modern platform.
When i saw the 2012 impala powertrain package i went out and bought one.
What a sleeper. Direct injected , 6 speed auto and it does get 30 mpg highway.
This is living in the future.
To bad its still front wheel drive!
