SLP Performance Teases Buick Regal GNX

SLP Performance is going rogue again. As with its own take on the Camaro ZL1, the tuning company has decided to resurrect a storied moniker, kick ass, and take names. In this case, it will be a Buick — more specifically, the Regal GNX.

As you scour the internet for data on the Regal GS, there are plenty of auto critics out there who wish for more power, and more unapologetic looks. SLP looks to deliver on all of those fronts, bringing the power levels to “more than” 300 horsepower, and from the looks of the sketch, a meaner profile to go with it. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like AWD is on the table.

If you want one, be on your toes, because SLP plans to build only 500 of them. Maybe GM themselves will bring an official GNX to market. If they do, hopefully they don’t forget the Haldex all-wheel-drive.

  1. I believe GM will build a GNX. With AWD. Maybe even with the turbo 3.0 V6 that we’ve been hearing about. I’d actually prefer it to be the 2.0 I4, but whatever floats their boat…

  2. Can I has all-wheel-drive? 🙂

  3. It would seem as a very simple thing to do is grab the powertrain (i.e. 2.8 litre / 321 hp AWD) from the Opel Insignia OPC and call it the Buick GNX for here in the States.

Im figuring somewhere around a cost of $48,000.00 – $55,000 for a car with 320hp AWD with all the goodies. But wow only 500 copies?

I want one. Sign me up.

  4. Why would anyone call a tuned Regal GS a “GNX” ? “GSX” makes just a little more sense to me?

  5. LFX323HP, good point. Why don’t you e-mail those cats at SLP and give them the suggestion. Maybe they’ll give you some free parts!!

  6. My family has driven and raced Buicks for years & we love all of them but I’ve waited since 2003 for someone to bring our Buick tradition into the Super Car age to compete with our Mopar, Mustang & Camaro rivals. My 70 GSX & 87 GNX are awesome cars but my 2003 SLP GSX Stage 3 lacks on HP. Let’s keep our fingers crossed that SLP will give us the ability to show the Ford, Chevy & Mopar folks we can “Go Fast With Class” once again! I’ll certainly buy one if it has sufficient HP! If it can’t compete with the Big three auto manufacturers with Horsepower ratings why bother because we’ll look pretty foolish on the street or strip.

  7. 300 HP won’t even start to get Muscle car purists to buy a new Buick GNX. Not when the big boys (GM, Ford & Mopar) are carrying 600+ HP with full factory warranty

    1. Screw the purists then. All they do is hold automakers back while whining on about “tradition” and their unrealistic demands becasue they think the future owes them “new” muscle cars.

A 600hp GNX would be far too expensive and would sell to few to recomp on R&D. The Regal itself isn’t exactly setting the world on fire, and a 300hp version selling 2K extra units a year will do a damn sight better than a 600hp version that only moves 50 units.

      1. I’m sorry that you were offended by my horsepower comment. As a Buick fan who has always raced & driven Buicks, I have waited for several years to have the opportunity to purchase another Buick automobile with HP to challenge the big 3 that are out there. My comment wasn’t meant to offend just share my desires for another Buick super car.

  8. The Buick station wagon that made several units was supposed but didn’t .The GNX is pure BULLSHIT ,RUMORS TO BUILD UP THE HYPE.REMEMBER OLD MEN DRIVE BUICKS,HAVE BEEN FOR THE PAST 80 YEARS ?

  9. Yes, we old men drive Buicks but the SLPGNX may surprise our brothers who own Mopars, Chevrolets & Fords. These guys are all about horsepower and they won’t put this car out there unless it will make an impression. I’m at the top of the list for owning one if they can compete with the Big 3 for horsepower.

  10. Humm seems I hit a nerve talking horsepower. Guess the Chevy & Ford manufacturers should have asked your input before they offered 600+ horsepower in their vehicles. Did you think about cost levels for options of HP just as the Big 3 offer. Oh yeah selling 500 SLPGNX’s at a higher margin is a better business plan than selling 2000 units at a lower profit margin. Just saying!

  11. This car sure is slick. A true amalgam of power and beauty. I sure wouldn’t mind having one of the 500.
