Push-Button Start On The 2012 Chevy Cruze

Earlier this week, we brought you a detailed overview of the upgraded Driver Information Center in the 2012 Chevy Cruze. As we were combing through a 2012 Cruze LTZ, we also noticed a new-for-2012 feature — keyless access and push-button start.
The system works as one would expect: leave your key fob in your purse or pocket, reach out, pull on the door handle, and — voilla — the door unlocks. Once inside, depress the brake pedal, push the engine start/stop button — located immediately to the right of the steering wheel — and the Cruze springs to life.
To shut the engine off, press the engine start/stop button once. Then, exit the vehicle and lock the Cruze by touching the square button located on the door handle (of either the driver’s door or that of the front passenger). Simple as pie.
Keyless access and push-button start is standard on the Cruze LTZ and available as a $300 option on the 2LT.

I’ve said it before but the ltz model really needs the stick the top drawer focus now offers the 5speed as a no cost option

This feature is on my 2012 SRX. I’m surprised more GM cars don’t have it also.
Yes, but unlike your SRX, this is a $20,000 compact sedan we’re talking about. And in this segment, until recently, it has been unheard of.

I don’t think it’s a bad idea to include this in lower trims for vehicles. I think its a big draw when test driving vehicles. It’s something people remember about a car, kind of like what nissan does with the altima

At what expense, though? My guess is the expense is additional complexity and extra cost. And the buyer of your typical subcompact may not appreciate (or even care about) the feature to begin with.
This is a cool feature to offer on the Cruze, but I also want to see the GM trounce Hyundai and Compete more favorably with Ford (Focus and Fiesta). This can be done by upgrading that 1.4 turbo to at least 150 bhp with the same MPG numbers or better, on both the Sonic and the Cruze. I think GM should offer that new 2.0 normally aspirated an 2.0 turbo on the Cruze to produce at least 165 bhp & 250bhp connected to 6-speeds man. & auto to gain 40 & 37 respectively MPGs on the highways.
GM should also add D.I to the 1.8 to produce at least 150 bhp and they will have and option between that and the 1.4 turbo as the base engine for European an American chevys. They should really consider these optional upgrades to beat the competition.
I’m all for direct injecting every single powerplant GM has. But I’m not so much a fan of increasing displacement in a compact vehicle that doesn’t need more power.
Now, that’s not to say that there isn’t a need or market for a high-performance Cruze (to battle the upcoming Focus ST, for instance). But the Cruze already gets best-in-class MPG as it is with its rather outdated 1.4T Ecotec… adding DI would maybe boost that from 42 MPG HWY to 43. Maybe 44… while a naturally-aspirated 2.0 (which doesn’t actually exist anymore) would add weight and counter the industry-wide “decrease in displacement” trend. That is to say it’s not that necessary.
Or they should just put DI in the 1.4T
