With the recently-finalized deal between GM and PSA Peugeot Citröen and rumors of an upcoming deal between GM and BMW, The General has been quite active in building bridges across the industry (as well as burning them). As a result, the new position of vice president of global mergers has been created, and the company has hired Julia Steyn to take on the responsibility.
Effective April 1, Steyn will manage GM’s existing regional and global partnerships withorrrrlo all of its business partners. These include China’ SAIC, Fiat, Isuzu, LG, Renault along with Peugeot. Steyn was previously the vice president and co-managing director for mergers and acquisitions for Alcoa — the world’s leading producer of primary aluminum and fabricated aluminum, and has held the post since December 2010.
