Ad Break: Shaq Shows “Oh Effect” In Buick LaCrosse

Shaq may have retired from the game, but not from being big. So it can only be a good thing that “only one car gives [him] full-size luxury and 36 miles per gallon.” And that’s nice, because Shaq’s shoes are bigger than most hybrids (here comes the punchline) — “and more stylish, too.”

The ad wraps up with, “If you don’t know the luxurious yet fuel efficient LaCrosse, you don’t know Buick” — and then goes on to promote the recently-announced Buick Experience program, which provides two years of premium service for free.

The GM Authority Take

Finally, a Buick ad that has some bight to it. We love it, as well as the comical interlude about the style of Shaq’s shoes… and he delivers it so eloquently, with such (as the kids would say) swagger. Good going, Buick… and good gong, Shaq.

  2. Isn’t he like 85 years old, and thus, a perfect spokesman for Buick?

Way to shoot yourself in the foot, Buick.

    1. Lol. More like 40.

  3. Like Jordan, or Joe Montana – These guys buy huge mansions and gold-plated Lambos so they have to keep workin’… Their accountants don’t tell them that when you stop playin’ you don’t stop payin’….( property taxes, child support… ) . So these guys sell themselves out – what cracks me up is old film stars hawking Reverse Mortgages on late night TV…Someday, we’ll see Shaq sellin’ portable oxygen systems on the Late Late Late Late show.

The Buick ad makes sense though and Shaq’s an old pro at sellin’ stuff. The Shaq-era demographic is right up the Verano’s alley.

  4. ….La Crosse too! LOL

  5. …In a Verano – might have to remove the back seat and replace it with the front seat for Shaq!

  6. This gonna be a one time thing, or is he the new Tiger Woods? I liked those commercials, I could believe Tiger drove a Buick. This one seems a bit forced.lol Could get better if he does more.

Then again, we all know that Shaq isn’t that great of an actor. Remember Kazzam?lol

    1. You think Tiger owned Buicks and liked driving them?!? Think he pulled a** in a Rendezvous? Typing that brought me to think of him saying, “Ladies, I’ve got room for 6.” But no, he drove his high-line Benzes and stuff to pick up his tail.

      Shaq rocked this commercial.

  7. Buick can’t use Tiger anymore ( he blew that gig bigtime! ) … So this is great for them.

What Shaq needs is a George Foreman grille. George’s prayers were answered when that gig came to him — He has to feed his son George 1st, George 2nd, George 3rd, and so on. Salton payed George $150 million in a long-term structured deal to use his name on the grille – this worked out better than hunting for endorsement deals and probably payed more than he ever made boxing.

  8. …Although I saw George sellin’ Meineke Mufflers a couple years back….. It takes bucks to feed a family the size of his!

  9. Speaking of the Foreman Grill, I heard that they pitched it to Mike Tyson but he turned it down, and the rest is history… I think I’m gonna make some burgers, but it’s raining, good thing I got one.lol

  10. How do you go from driving a Land Rover to a Buick? Also if you have as much money as Shaq why would you care about gas mileage. All jokes aside Building a reputation takes time. Just by putting a famous person in a car does not mean you build great cars. The cars you build will speak for themselves. (in my opinion) Thanks 🙂

    1. Sure, a famous person in an ad or even spokesperson position is nothing without good product. It will take time, and a combination of great product and equally great marketing as well as service. And in that regard, Buick is on the right track. They have 70% of the product lineup and great (recognizable) ads are finally starting to take shape.

  11. Land Rover or Buick well I like it when I get in the car in the morning and it starts so I will get the Buick

  12. Ironic considering Rovers were once powered by Buick engines

  13. He doesn’t look comfortable. His knees are on the sides of the steering wheel. It needs to be in 3D for when he points his finger at the camera.

  14. The LaCrosse TV ad featuring Shaq makes me laugh every time I see it. Look at position of his legs. There is no way he fits in that front seat. Perhaps you should remove that seat and let him streer from the rear. This ad does not bode well in representing the amount of leg space in the driver’s seat. The entire interior looks small with Shaq sitting there. Nothing against Shaq, he is very personable, but perhaps you should give a horse jockey equal time.
