The Cadillac ATS Looks So Much Better In Silver

Cadillac just released some photos of the ATS sport compact sedan coated in Radiant Silver Metallic hue, which in our opinion, makes the car look momentously more appealing than the Crystal Red Tintcoat that was used during the vehicle’s world debut in Detroit… wouldn’t you agree?

  1. Much better. They should have released the first wave of photos in silver rather than in red.

  2. YES, ALEX…..THE RED THAT WAS USED IS NOT VERY NICE….WOULD LIKE WHITE…THAT WOULD BE VERY ELEGANT 🙂

    1. YES………………..the metallic white would be cool with those headlights and fogs lit up

  4. I don’t why they still make red cars.

    1. Because red looks good on some cars, but not all cars.

  5. I normally don’t care for red vehicles one bit (Ferraris notwithstanding), but in this case, the silver actually makes the ATS look somehow more…plebian, less of a true-bred European sports-sedan fighter and more of a CTS that’s seen a pair of metal-shears.

    1. Well, that’s the thing. There are multiple shades of red — and the red that the ATS was unveiled in was of the darker variety… If it were shown in a lighter (brighter) red — as with the new 3 series — things may have appeared to be a bit different.

      1. Hmm…perhaps you’re right. Color variations aside, the only change that I would wish upon the ATS is that the pieces of wood veneer/aluminum trim on the dashboard and door a be connected, rather than designed into separate panels, as I feel this would give the cabin a further level of congruence and unity.

It truly is a beautiful vehicle, though, and the fact that Cadillac developed a new platform, rather than actually chopping up the CTS proves how committed the division is to its goal of becoming a world-class brand

      2. Yes, sir….a better color/shade of red would do it . Most Europeans cars are more simple so to speak in concept and color…..Maybe what we are seeing are prototype colors??? IT is a Cadillac, nonetheless….I bet it will be even nicer than we think 🙂

      3. I know the list is not out yet, but do you think we will see a standard white instead of the $1k upscale diamond? My last Cadillac had White Diamond and I thought it was too much of a cream….liked the Cotillion White they used to offer best.

        1. This is something that’s also been on my mind. Not everyone who wants a white car wants to pay for the Diamond Tricoat, even though it’s über nice. We’ll see…

          1. Yes, my sister was going to buy srx but decided Lexus was better deal with the sparkly white paint free…..I wonder if ATS will have the Platinum white? Yes, we will see….Verano has the pretty bright white standard of course

          2. Cadillac loves to charge extra for a lot of options. The upscale paint is twice that of Chevy or Buick.

          3. Yes, Alex….I hope the colors are really different to give this car a real boost…..I think a handsome gray will be offered as I said before? 🙂

            1. One can only hope 🙂

    1. Yes, will be good to see what colors are available….gray flannel as on the XRX would be sharp 🙂

  7. I think many of us would say we like this car, but I don’t think any of us would say we were blown away by its design; it is competitive within the 3/C series of cars and there manufacturers but not necessarily in exterior styling. I honestly thought I would have been more blown away, to be honest it’s kind of Generic compared to the competition, and because not everyone is going to go to Germany and jump on the RING to test the limits, styling plays a huge role in attracting people; granted the demographic this car is meant for probably likes the toned down art and science theme on this car; my guess in 4 years we will see a major exterior update, catering to a more forward thinking demographic.

    1. Yes, but who said that a mainstream luxury vehicle needs to be styled as aggressively as a fighter jet? For years, the 3er has dominated the space with “very good” styling which was not revolutionary or breath-taking (with the exception of the M3).

I think the key for success here is 1) tastefulness and beauty, 2) brand/name/reputation, 3) performance, and 4) interior lux, not necessarily in any order. And maybe with the exception of item 3, the ATS has it all.

      1. Alex, you are right on….as usual: it is a very nice car is so many ways…a huge leap ahead at any rate. I am anxious to see the real thing and sit inside….I have a feeling it will be very, very fine…..won;t be long…..I hope the base is good enough to drive away!!

      2. Right. I think the best part of this car is that General Motors actually let engineering dictate styling, rather than trying to squeeze a practical vehicle around an impractical concept, which usually tends to maximize the curb weight while minimizing the practicality and drivability. People buying from this segment of driver’s cars are particularly picky about styling, and, if you’ll notice, none of this segment’s vehicles (not the Acura TSX, nor the Mercedes-Benz C-Class, nor the Audi A4, nor even the esteemed BMW 3-Series) is outwardly stylized. As far as we can tell, the Cadillac ATS is poised to do exactly what it was designed to do, and elegantly at that.

  8. Wondering why every single GM product has to have the envelope fold in the center. While it goes with Cadillac’s edge motif to an extent, the envelope crease in the center of the hood and decklid must be a requirement of all GM auto designers and I am wondering why.

    1. It’s not a “requirement” per se; it’s simply a good design element that most find attractive. It also helps in aerodynamics.

      1. Exactly so….really elegant and thoughtful, i think. Would be classic in white 🙂

  9. The red … love it. Silver/grays, light to dark, are always a last color choice for me but color is so personal and there’s never a wide enough color selection for me from GM. I othen wonder who is doing their paint & color work, too many bland choices across the brands. What GM really needs to work on are their blues. They introduced the new SRX to include Caribbean Blue, a color I saw and loved but was short lived and many of their dark blues have been/are so dark they are next to black (Imperial Blue). Fewer shades of gray, more blues for me. Can’t wait to see the new ATS. Terrific looking car. GM is really hitting some great notes on their styling.

    1. YES, the blues are bad, bad , bad. I do think there will be a nice gray…Buick Verano just came out with a nice rich one called Cyber Gray..so maybe it will be same or similar? Am so anxious to see one for real!!
