When the Cadillac XTS was revealed this past November during the 2011 LA International Auto Show, many imagined the future of the Epsilon II-based tweener sedan to offer something a little more hardcore than its standard 300-horsepower V6 engine. And while that could very well be the case with the addition of something like a turbocharger to the powerplant, Cadillac’s Don Butler notes that consumers won’t see a “V” variant during the current model’s lifespan.
We can’t say we’re dissapointed or surprised, considering the XTS is supposed to be the laid-back model of Cadillac’s sedan family, which will soon be comprised of the aging CTS, XTS and first-ever ATS by the end of the summer. Look for the inevitable rear-wheel-drive Cadillac flagship to eventually find its way to market, which will most likely don a V badge.

All I have to say is Thank God!
it would just be weird if you put a 400+hp V8 on a front drive car!
If anyone out there is profoundly disapointed and/or angry at GM for this news, then I’m glad you’re not in charge of Cadillac’s product development.
I wonder if Impala will get a SS version?
The last Front Wheel Drive SS Impala had 303-horsepower V8. According to the post the XTS will be offered with a 300-horsepower V6 engine. So in other words I don’t think it would be very difacutl for them to slap a SS bage on a Impala and call it a day 🙂
That would be wrong! I don’t care for XTS-V but I think that there should be a Impala SS with 3.6 turbo.
Lex what would be wrong a CTS-V ? if that is the case I agree with you. Also I don’t think a 3.6 Turbo with more then 300-horsepower would work on a Front Wheel Drive car. I think that’s to much power If I had to guess you would need All Wheel Drive to deal with all that power. What say the rest of you? Thanks 🙂
Ok i messed up again I mean XTS-V haha sorry 🙂
What would be wrong is to slap an SS badge without upgrading the engine. 3.6 turbo AWD sounds good.
An SS Cadillac. Really?
if you have that much hp on a fwd car you’re gonna spend hundreds of dollars on those tires…
haha no not a SS Cadillac He is talking about the Impala 🙂
Ah. At any rate, if they were to offer anything more substantial, I hope that it would be at least AWD.
Manoli I agree with you I honestly don’t think a FWD setup can handle over 300hp
