The latest spy photos of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado published on Inside Line are a little better than the previous photos released a little over a month ago. For one, we get a full body shot of the upcoming full-size pickup truck, showing off an even boxier design than the outgoing model. The new face, however, remains shrouded in mystery, as does the interior layout.
As for things to watch for, expect the all-new Silverado and GMC Sierra to utilize the Chevy MyLink and Intellilink infotainment systems, significant aerodynamic improvements, and hopefully an EcoBoost-fighting turbocharged V6 engine. GM insiders acknowledge what’s happening over in Dearborn, and the success their EcoBoost-optioned F-150 had in 2011. We anticipate the new Silverado to launch in 2013, along with the new Corvette.

JD when will we see these on the autos how circuit…
you may see this coming up very soon, I cannot give out all info but the wait will be worth it, the thought of a turbocharged engine is a sure thing and there will be all new engines in the line up interior will be very modern for GMC and very funtional for chevy with the option of an upscale interior as you have today, they will both be ahead of the competition and not just meet what the competition is doing. do you like the larger cab configuration?
I love the larger cab, I think that the Tundra has a really good size body with a roomy interior. What it looks like is the Chevy will adopt a traditional hinged doors with the extended cab which I think is a great choice that will make the cab stronger and more more banging doors against each other. I’m just hoping that the wheel wells will be larger and preferably round. GM also needs to upgrade the towing mirrors and hopefully there will be a King Ranch and Platinum competitor from Chevy (not just GMC). Oh one more thing, did GM take any measures on rust issues? Aluminum body sounds good to me.
Suddenly it’s 1974, you’r right it looks like a pickup truck
Very interesting, starting to get a bit of an idea what it will look like. BTW- any medium duty news?
Nothing yet. Everyone is being very quiet at the moment.
Thanks! Keep up the good work!
I’m not so sure I’m feeling this truck, guys. Is it the square wheel wells (though I think I’m seeing signs that they may be more rounded than the camo is letting out) or is it the flat bonnet…err…sorry…hood?
Eh, spy shots rarely do anything any justice. From what we’ve been told, this thing is going to look absolutely stellar!
I have faith in the General. They can not afford to whiff on this truck and I do not think they will. As long as the Silverado and Camaro are strong I sometimes forget Chevy makes other stuff. I hope they keep the Vortec name on the new engine line up for old times sake. Two more huge pet peeves, Z-71 should only be available on a 4×4 Silverados and not a lame appearance package on 2 wheel drives and SS badges on Camaros ONLY! We are mostly GM fans on this sight and even I can not defend the guy who talks trash to a blue oval guy about his 2 wheel drive Z-71 colorado and his SS cobalt.
Z-71 Colorado. Lolz.
I’d give the hotted-up variants of the Cruze, Sonic, etc. the Z-Spec moniker.
What, exactly, is wrong with an SS Cobalt?
There is nothing wrong with a Cobalt SS if it lives up to the SS name, but the Cobalt SS that GM built didnt, it was underpowered, among other issues, and diluted the SS brand presite and reputation.
And the Cobalt SS didn’t live up to this imaginary reputaion?
It had 260hp, it weighed nothing, at the time was the fastest FWD car on the ring.
If the next words sitting on the tip of your tounge is “1994 Impala SS”, then may I remind you that the Cobalt SS had not only a better power to weight ratio than that heap, but is a car that actually propelled the ‘SS’ brand into the 21 century.
RWD and V8’s DO NOT define an SS and never will. An SS is a Chevy that outperforms and outstrips it’s compeditors in EVERY segment, not just one. The Cobalt SS did just that and the cult that follows that car today demands such trim finds it’s way to the Cruze.
The Cobalt SS was every inch an SS and nothing will remove that fact, not even the drying breath of old men who can only rememeber when the ’61 Impala was new and thus use that old barge as a standard to judge cars 50 years into the future.
Really? I thought the Cobalt SS had 205 hp, either I have bad memory or your making a mistake, and im pretty sure that one underperformed.
Did you just call me an old man? Thats funny because Im a so called “millenial” and I am 100% sure im younger than you.
And Graw, you shouldnt assume anything negative about someone or personally attack them just becuse they dont agree with you.
You may be right becuase I dont have personal experiance with the cobalt ss, I just heard from friends and others that it underperformed,
You both are correct. The Cobalt SS launched with a supercharged 2.0 back in 2004, and yes it did have only 205 hp. They watered it down with the “1SS” model (*shudder*) with a NA 2.4 and 171 hp. Redemption came in 2008 with a 260hp 2.0T. 0-60 in 5.5, and was an unassuming track star, beating even the likes of the Lancer Evo X.
Well I appolgize if what I said can be taken as insultive, it certainly wasn’t my intent. I’m also not even going to jump into the game of “guess the other users age” because not only is that unwinnable, but the cards aren’t stacked in my favour (and never will be).
The more and more I re-read my initial post, the less inclinded I’m to think of it as a pointed attack against the old guard that always argues against cars that aren’t ’61 Impalas, and more of a gaseous spew of a ruptured sceptic tank that may have been unfairly aimed at you.
For that, I can only appolgize, although I feel that doing so via the internet somehow looses it’s impact and value that could only be had if I could appolgize face-to-face.
No problem, Manoli cleared things up, the 205hp SS was underpowered while the 260hp one who were referring to is worthy of the SS nameplate and I complete agree that SS shouldnt just be limited to V8 and RWD.
correction: you not who
What happen the news of the future medium duty trucks ?
94-96 impala ss were great cars of their time and still are. Just because they are 10 year old technology behind the cobolt does not make them a heap of cr@p. They were powerful for their time. The next fwd impala ss that came after was a bit to be desired but still had its followers. Gm seems to make ss everything these days to sell to the certain demographic. The z name would be better for underpowered cars like the first cobolt. Rwd v8 is ss. Whats next cobolt zr1? Cant wait to see gm’s new trucks and engines. Im holding off buying one in hopes the 5.3 gets more power and tq. If not then i will buy a 2012.
WTF Dept:
CAN GM TELL ME HOW YOU DESIGN AN AERODYNAMIC BOX?!
Quote from article: “GM’s new Silverado design appears even boxier than the current model”.
???????? Isn’t it about gas mileage today? How do you push a box through the air?Honda is on a downturn of late – it’s models’ sales all down – it’s “new” designs lackluster. Test reports of Pilot crossover and Ridgeline SUTs question Honda’s box-nose design theme, not only does it cause the vehicle to wander, but there’s a true sense that the wind is just holding the vehicle back.
Ford seems to be calling the shots with it’s “my truck is squarer than yours” theme, and Dodge goes one better with a grille that ACTUALLY SLANTS FORWARD at the top! I know I’m no engineer, but one trip to Eco-Modder.com will teach us how aero effects efficiency. My ’57 Chev 3100 stepside’s more slippery than the shrouded truck pictured above.
How about a removable rounded nosecone… That way a guy can get 5-9 more mpg and when he arrives to his destination, just unclip the nosecone and toss it inside so he still appears to be driving some kind of mini dumptruck or semi. I know the corporate answer to the above commentary: “The average fullsized pickup buyer in America wants a big tall truck that makes him feel big and tall – like he’s in a private Peterbilt”. This is horsesh*t. Are guys really that stupid? —- Don’t answer that!
I have to go now, got to work on my five o’ clock shadow and scratch myself. Maybe I can glue a Kenworth grille on front of my 4X4 and weld a stepladder onto my tailgate so I can get stuff out of the back. I’ll need a second job to pay for fuel in my 2014 Silverado.
I think the silverodo SS should came back.
