OnStar’s Chinese arm, Shanghai OnStar, has upgraded its smartphone app to include a navigation component that was introduced in North America in August.
The app, which is available for free on Apple iOS devices and those running Google’s Android operating system, allows users to search for a destination and send it to their vehicle. Upon starting the vehicle, drivers will hear the OnStar route guidance direct them on their journey — all without taking their hands off the wheel or eyes off the road.
Searching for a destination can be performed using the device’s address book or performing a web search. The app also offers users the ability to save the navigation path into History or Favorites, allowing for its reuse on subsequent trips, as well as the already-existing features such as remote start, horn/light activation, and door lock/unlock, among others.
The Mobile Application II, as its is called officially by Shanghai OnStar, is available on OnStar’s website at onstar.com.cn. Users who have previously downloaded the app can upgrade by downloading the update in the app store of their respective mobile platform.
